Carb won't drain -- what to do?

I've owned the bike since 97 and have put about 5k miles on her but never had to do any carb work until the idiocy of ethanol. It rusted my tank and caused carbs to junk up. I guess putting corn in gas is good for farmers and small engine repairmen - what a bunch of idiots who made that...

Carb won't drain -- what to do?

I think I tried shooting air through drain hose a few months ago but will try again. I'll also look for the vent tube mentioned -- thanks for the help.

Carb won't drain -- what to do?

Thanks for looking in - I have an 89 that recently started idling terribly because of "ethanol"? messing up the carbs. I tried the peashooter and shotgun methods and solved the problem but after just a few months sitting up this time w/ Stabil - it's idling bad again and sounding terrible...

Fuel coming out tube on top of carb?

I've recently learned of this Ethanol BS and could be the reason the bike began to have trouble over the last few years. I do run 93 which I think is Ethanol free but I'm going to find ethanol free gas for sure in my area for all my vehicles and equipment. Can't believe how stupid our...

Fuel coming out tube on top of carb?

I decided to re-load the "Shotgun" and that did the trick. Thanks again for the help on that one -- I'm going to put everything back together and hope she runs and sounds like you used to -- I'm sure I'll be back soon needing some help?! Not tryng to think negatively but realistically!

Fuel coming out tube on top of carb?

No luck -- tried both suggestions several times and still fuel pouring out (vent? hose). Took off carb cover and airbox and sprayed cleaner in ports and that w/ no luck either. Thinking of re-trying "Shotgun" w/ that carb or maybe "peashooter". Could that help?...or anything else to try...

Fuel coming out tube on top of carb?

Thanks everyone - I'll give all these a try and hopefully will report back w/ some good news. No-one mentioned that the idle screw could be the problem so I feel alot better already!

Fuel coming out tube on top of carb?

Thanks for looking in AGAIN -- I've been fighting a rusted tank, carbs gone bad etc. Sealed tank and did Shotgun method. Tried to fire her up and fuel is coming out of (vent tube?) on top of carb that leads to topside of airbox. That particular carb gave me trouble in that the idle screw was...

    Bleed Brakes - Process?

Thanks - I think it's good to go. I'll know tomorrow - as it's the fourth and final day of tank sealer time! Hopefully the tank is good, carb work was a success?, and the brakes stop me?! If the bike fires up and sounds good again - it will be a successful learning curve for me on the VMax...

    Bleed Brakes - Process?

Thanks for looking in - Installed new pads and not sure how to bleed brakes?! Doesn't seem to work like my car - I tried pushing and hold brake down, open bleeder w/ tube in fluid, tightend bleeder -- but nothing really happening. I tried pumping brake and old fluid and a good bit of air did...

    Rear Caliper ?

Thanks -- finally got it! I tapped the piston on my vice a few times and that seemed to get its attention. The grease gun did the trick ater that. I'm now having a problem w/ bleeding - it doesn't seem to like the way I'm doing it? I'll post a new thread to find the answer on correct process...

    Rear Caliper ?

It doesnt want to budge!! Tried grease gun w/ no luck (standard size gun w/ me putting alot of pressure) - I closed off port that grease did come out of but the piston will not move. I'm going to try air and grease gun some more but wanted to see if anyone thinks some heat would be ok...

    Rear Caliper ?

Thanks for all the advice -- the air didn't work -- great idea on the grease gun, I'll try it tomorrow. Sam - "push brake" -- I read if piston sticks or won't close to try pressing brake pedal to push them back out, clean and try again. I tried that and the one which was not closing moved...

    Rear Caliper ?

Thanks - Where I'm at is one piston or (puck) totally out after I pushed brake pedal and the other didn't move and is stuck nearly all the way in - maybe a 1/4 inch out. I've taken caliper off - tried to pull on it w/ vice grips - not too much pressure etc until I checked w/ the forum?! I've...

    Rear Caliper ?

Thanks for looking in - I noticed my rear pads looked thin so thought I'd put some new ones on.....and now of course I've got a real problem! While trying to press pistons back - one wouldn't budge. Read on the forum to push brake and now the one piston that did retract won't push back out...

Idle adjustment screw stripped - Any ideas besides C4?

Yeh - the head is stripped. You think a small extractor will work in there? It's the carb located on right side nearest seat. I'm hoping the bike will run good once I put the tank back in etc and won't have to mess w/ it but I'll try an extractor if so. Thanks - where's the best place to buy...

Shotgun - Quick ? on process

Thanks Tom - I think I've got that one handled but found my next problem just as quick. Found a partially stripped idle screw and before I could stop myself - it is completely stripped. I don't believe it ever turned so I'm not sure where I'm at w/ it but soon as I get the tank sealed and put...

Idle adjustment screw stripped - Any ideas besides C4?

Thanks for looking in - While doing the shotgun repair, I found one of the idle screws was partially stripped and now it is stripped all the way! I've never messed with them the 13 years I've owned the bike so I'm thinking it is in the right position but when it wasn't so stripped and I seemed...

Shotgun - Quick ? on process

Thanks - the directions I have on the "Shotgun" from lvlhead's Vmax say spray only air in the PAJ's and spray carb cleaner in the Main air jet bleeds and carb mixture screw opening. Stick to that?....or as in a few of these replies shoot carb cleaner in PAJ's? Thanks for the help - trying not...

Shotgun - Quick ? on process

Thanks for looking in - I'm trying to clean up my carbs with the "Shotgun method" and wanted to ask how many times is recommended to shoot carb cleaner and air etc per carb? Is air pressure important? - I turned it down to 60 psi to shoot down PAJ 1 and 2. The idle mixture screw was full of...
