Just bought an '09. Not really looking for more power, just a somewhat throatier exhaust (not crazy loud). I was hoping I could just drill out a baffle or the like, but from what I've heard it sounds like that's not an option. Don't really have the budget for something like an Akrapovic; anybody have any experience with the
Maxflow TwinStar 4-2 Dual Cat Eliminator
setup? It's a more modest $600 deal on ebay

That includes the mufflers I believe which will be real LOUD.

This pipe will allow you to use the stock mufflers:

This pipe will be fine but there are 1 or 2 other options out there besides the Akra (X-Pipe for one)........I need to do a little research to refresh my memory.

Stainless version of the Akrapovic:

I wanted to keep the existing mufflers and remove the cat for more exhaust sound. I ended up buying the Doninator Y pipes from Poland, by far the cheapest solution to replace the cat at $350 all in. I also inserted baffles in the existing mufflers as the sound was too loud for me.

Hi you mean the sound was to high just after remove the cat??
I was thinking of this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-VMA...001924?hash=item239898bc84:g:32QAAOSwlMpalSNS
But dont want it to be to loud.

There was a Youtube video of two Gen2's, one with cat removed and one as standard which gave a good sound comparison of the two, but can't find it so have linked another video which has standard mufflers and cat removed so that you can hear the "improved" sound :D

Sounds good. But since a Delkevic tri-oval de-cat system was about the same price as just the x-pipe style under-body setup, I ordered the Delkevic. We'll see.

That will be much louder.

They tell me that the 17" canister would not be dramatically louder than stock (whereas a shorter canister would be). I'll be finding out soon.

Wouldn't bother me, I like loud.

A longer can produces a deeper tone normally and a little quieter. I know someone that just installed a Delkevic and it is much louder than the stock cans but sounds good. It is a shorter can though.

Here's a link to hear the sound on my bike. 14" Carbon Delkevic's with the de-cat mid pipes. I like it, not super loud at steady throttle when cruising but they growl when getting on it.

Sounds good and not real loud.
