New to the community here. Got a gen 1 V-Max -98 that I had for about 15 years now. Haven't driven for 4-5 years, the last time I drove I suspect I broke a cylinder head gasket when I braked the engine too hard so the engine revs went up too high, but now I'm eager to change the gasket and get started and drive again.

Welcome, some reading for you. I suggest bookmarking the factory service manual, and printing out a copy for referral in the garage.

You're likely going to have to clean those carbs, and this pic will help set your floats. I believe it's member dannymax who made this.

Lots of useful info and you can find answers to many questions here.

Using the upper-left search function will help you to get info on your bike's problems, because someone on here has probably had the same issue.

Welcome ! Head gasket failures are very rare in these bikes. I would do a lot of research before I pulled the head off.
Agreed. Very very rare for a head gasket failure on these bikes. An over rev is more likely to wipe out a rod bearing or small end then a head gasket.
