looking for ideas?

I have a 1997 and I just broke 3,000 miles with it. I bought it from a guy who bought it new he rode it a couple of times and it scared the hell out of him and he was to proud to admit this to his wife so he keeped it for years out of spite. I bought it with about 200 miles on it a few years ago. So anyway it seems to have some hesatation not all the time but sometimes. also at idle some times it will stall not all the time though. any ideas as to why? I also noticed for such a big engine it has little in the way of air flow to the carbs this bike is bone stock nothing has been done but change the oil and tires dont know if that helps.

Things might be getting a little gummy in the carbs. Run some seafoam through it. If that dosn't help try the shotgun and peashooter cleaning techniques. Aslo a carb sync couldn't hurt. The air filter might need changing as well.
