I just bought my first Vmax it is a 2001 with 35,000 km on it. I am noticing a vibration in the seat when it is under load in 4th and 5th gear. Also when I accelerate up past 180km the bike starts to shake . Tires are new and balanced. Could this be the u joint in the drive shaft or is the vibration typical .

It is probably worth pulling it apart to inspect it before it breaks and does more damage.Sean Morley just had a twisted shaft not long ago.

When did the vibes start ? After the new tires ? How old are the tires ? How was it before the new tires ? Have you been riding it hard lately ? Did you notice that you've lost any balance weights. What tires did you get ? Did you do it yourself or was it a shop who did it. Check pressure too, and check the torque of the rear axle.
Some thing is out, if you had something wrong with the shaft drive, I think you would feel it way before the 180 mark.....I agree with Shawn, you should double check everything. NO THIS IS NOT NORMAL ! Before you kill yourself.
