Should work just fine.
thread is OK. Lucky me. Screws were stripped before I bought it, hopefully that was a reason I got it dirt cheap. (less than 500)

Yeah I have seen that “modification” before. Arrived on one of the Gen1s I picked up.
Other than being ugly and a bit heavy-handed, it does no harm and provides better access.
