Middle gear nut

Getting ready to attempt to remove/replace the middle gear nut while everything is in the bike. Need advice on best way to do this. Put bike in gear, not in gear, etc.

Impossible to do (if removing the middle gear itself). You can't compress the spring to release the "C" clips. Transmission shaft needs to be out of the engine case. If you are talking about the big nut under the middle gear cover then that can be done but not sure why you would do that?

If you are talking about the nut holding on the ujoint that's a different story.

Yes nut under cover..got a colored one I want to put in. Advice?

You should be able to put it in gear but make sure you don't rotate the bike off the sidestand ni case you manage to turn over the engine before it comes loose. That's a huge nut - where'd you get it? Picture?
