I have a small removable backrest on my 97.I would like to have just the short loop on there when riding solo.I cant find any pics with the grab rail like mine, all are one piece solid.

Looks like you have a sissybar bottom (with grabrails for the passenger) that has then had a mid height grab bar fitted, rather than a stock height bar for the backrest.

Can you post some more pics of your setup? - I have not seen one quite like yours - but like it!

Hey Raming Speed. You have mutation on your hands.

The OEM Yamaha back rest is a 3 piece deal. 2 side rails, and 1 "hoop" that the pad mounts to.

You have the VMAX side rails but your "hoop" is a grab bar from a Virago.

I've never seen an off the shelf solution where you can remove the virago bar and slip something shorter in its place.

As you note, the OEM grab rail is a totally different design.

If you want a more svelte look, you can install an OEM grab rail and get a different sissybar that is easily removable. See link:

Note that removing the reflector plate or modification of it is required.
