Hi,

I was wondering if anybody knew the width increase I would experience going from a Metzeler 150/90 B 15 M/C 80H to a Metzeler 170/80HB15? Would it be as much as 1/2 inch wider on a stock rim? For some reason I don't see much of a difference in pictures and would appreciate some real-world dimensions.

Thanks in advance!

That's a 20 mm increase in width going from a 150 to 170 tire. That's about .79 inches.

Thanks a lot! I would assume the reduction in profile from 90 to 80 would add a bit more width as well right?

No, that number indicates the percentage of the width number and is the height of the sidewall.

So, with your examples the 150/90 tire has a sidewall height of 150 x .9 = 135 mm or 5.31 inches. So, the height of that tire including the wheel is 5.31 + 5.31 + 15 = 25.62 inches.

The 170/80 tire is 136 mm or 5.35 inches. So total height there is 5.35 + 5.35 + 15 = 25.70 inches.

TMI?
