Does anyone know of a good VMAX mechanic in the Baltimore/DC area?

I have a 1985. It is dying at idle after it is warmed up. Turned the idle up just under 1500, but it didn't help.

Sounds like carb jets need a good cleaning. Pull the pilot jet blocks out and clean the needles.

If you have the tools these are usually what is needed--

If the first one doesn't work then try the second one.

If the second doesn't work you will need to take the carbs apart and clean out the float bowls- mainly the jets in the jetblock- the pilot jet in there is usually the culprit as it is the smallest jet on the vmax.

Some guys run seafoam and it helps after a few tanks.

I will give it a try. Also wondered if this might be electrical. Thanks much.

Could very well be electrical. The ignition box requires a healthy voltage at idle, or the bike will stall out. This has been my experience, as well as that of many other owners.
First thing to check is the state of the battery, by having it load-tested. If O.K., check the voltage across the battery terminals, with the bike idling. Should beat least 13.5.
If not, there is a comprehensive thread on this forum that will walk you through a check of the charging system.
Cheers!
