I would suspect the master cylinder needs a rebuild done before going with anything to do with the abs. Kits are not expensive and they give these same symptoms when the seals go bad.

Easiest way to pull them is to double nut the studs (meaning lock two nuts together about mid-way down the studs, then use a wrench to turn the nuts and the stud should turn outward with them. If the studs feel too tight still, some moderate heat applied to them should do the trick.

First and foremost, make sure it is getting 12 volts. Could be a wiring issue. Is anything else not working on the bike (electrical)? Check fuses if no voltage going to the pump. If you have full voltage going to the pump, double check the ground. If all is good, then you can bet its the pump...
