    Horn problems

Ok G, thanks. By diodes block do you mean the rectifier/regulator? Sorry I'm so tardy with my response, been super busy. Thanks again.

    Horn problems

Ok, here's a good one. I recently noticed my v-boost servo wasn't cycling when I first go to start my Max so I was gonna do an oil change and try to trouble shoot it yesterday. I changed the oil and took it out for a ride to warm it up, check for leaks, etc. On the way back home, I pulled up to...

    SkullDuggery, Compression Retest

When I put my 1260 together, I sent the cams out to WEB-CAMS and went with their #227 grind. When I got it running the top end is quite a bit noisier than stock. I went over my clearances twice so I guess thats just the nature of the beast. I've got about 450 mi. on the motor now and it hasn't...

    SkullDuggery, Compression Retest

I'd like to know the history of that motor. Is the valve train a little noisier than your '94?

    vmaxmart

I had an issue like yours awhile back. It was only after I put a used 4-brush starter on and still had the same problem that I dislodged my head from my rectum and did a proper diagnosis. The problem was low battery voltage because of a faulty voltage regulator. A simple voltage test at idle...

    about to pull hair out

Glad you got it off. It's like a rite of passage, a test of strength and courage and you have prevailed. The thing that makes this job so tough is that when you apply the pressure that your experience tells you should be more than enough, you ain't even close. You're only at a shit 1/4 ton or so.

    about to pull hair out

Here, as well as other situations, size matters. Get the biggest, most heavy duty puller you can fit on the flywheel and stiil clear the block. The one I used had a point on the center bolt so I couldn't leave the flywheel bolt, which was bent anyhow, in the crank. I used an impact socket that...

    about to pull hair out

Hang in there buddy, it will come off. I used a HUGE( not sure of the tonnage ) 3 jaw puller to pop mine off. I bent the bolt and broke a harmonic balancer puller and just about abandonded my religion before I got pissed enough to apply the required force that it takes to do this m/f of a job...

    Starter issue

Well, you guys have again been a great help. I guess the logical way to go would be to pull the starter and give it a good cleaning and bend those tabs to ensure a good ground. With the increase in compression ratio and the slight increase in cylinder volume, it's probably working the starting...

    Starter issue

O.K., I remember seeing phillip screws on the starter body when I had the motor apart. When I put it back together I wire-wheeled the cable and terminal so that connection should be sound. I'm thinking an upgrade to a 4-pole unit might be the way to go. It is embarrasing when I stop for gas and...

    Starter issue

As far as I know, it's the stock 1986 issue starter. The motor had just a little over 26k on it when I rebuilt it so the starter has seen considerable use. How do I determine if it is a 2 pole or 4 pole unit? Thanks.

    Starter issue

Once again I stand before the elders, seeking their guidance. :biglaugh: Last year I built a 1260 with an approx. compression ratio of 13:1. The pistons were MTC 14:1 pistons but I had to have the valve pockets deepened for the cams I'm running and I had some metal removed from the domes. Fast...

How to select main bearing and connecting rod shell sizes

The numbers on my block were on the opposite side of where my manual said I would find them. Good Luck!

    Side covers

O.K., Thanks for the input. I guess Plan B will be getting them powdercoated. I had Jet-Hot coat my airscoops and I was kinda wanting the side covers to match, but the chrome powdercoating should be pretty close. :pullhair:

    Side covers

Does anyone know what the Vmax side covers are made of ? I sent them to Jet-Hot to be coated and they told me they were aluminum and were too thin to be coated with their product. They said that they had to get them really hot to cure the coating and they might melt. I saw a listing somewhere...

    Carb interchangeability

Can anyone tell me if Yamaha Venture carbs will interchange with Vmax carbs. I have a 1986 Max. Thanks.:ummm:

    Worth the wait!

Well members, I'm happy to report that I just got back from my 1st ride on my '86 Max after a ground-up overhaul including replacement of the cases themselves due to a spun main bearing. I bought it a year ago, stuck in 1st gear, but after I updated the segment I found out that it had the 2nd...
