Idle adjustment screw stripped - Any ideas besides C4?

Thanks for looking in - While doing the shotgun repair, I found one of the idle screws was partially stripped and now it is stripped all the way! I've never messed with them the 13 years I've owned the bike so I'm thinking it is in the right position but when it wasn't so stripped and I seemed...

typical valve adjustment shim change amount?

Whats the "norm" when adjusting valves? Mine seemed to be pretty tight. If I am using my feelers correctly all my exhaust valves were around .008in and I went down about 3 shim sizes on average....005mm increments...so if it was say a 260 shim I ended up going down to a 245 shim...and ended up...

    Yamaha valve adjustment chart wrong?

OK, I'm looking at the Yamaha factory chart for valve clearance adjustment.....the exhaust chart don't make any sense.:confused2: The blank row for measured exhaust clearance which should indicate "normal" range has been observed and thus no shim replacement needed is on the 0.16-0.20mm line...

HOW TO: adjust your valves clearances pt2

Ok so now we're ready to start measuring clearances and adjusting them with the use of shims. DO NOT attempt to start this job without first talking to Sean Morley ([email protected]), because he may just lend you his shim kit. Without it, you'll need a Yamaha special tool (YM-33961 Tappet...

    Progressive 440 adjustment

Can someone here that has the Progressive 440's explain the way to adjust these for inital setup? I am not seeing much in the way of markings to indicate a starting point or a way to tell that both shocks are adjusted the same. Any help would be appreciated.:ummm: -Mike

    Stock rear shock adjustment

My stock rear shocks feel like they need to be stiffer, I adjusted them at the top but I would like them a little stiffer. Can you adjust them from the bottom also? I know about the progressive shocks, just not ready for that mod yet. I rode the 85 Max for 19 years and never seem to have this...

    Valve Adjustment Question

I am going to attempt to check my valve clearance this weekend. Just curious what I need to remove in order to have room to do the procedure. The Yamaha manual says all you need to remove is the faux tank, left and right scoops, electrical board on the left side, radiator bolts, rear air baffle...

what is the procedure for adjusting the floats? should the carbs be vertical or horizontal, and what are you using for reference. I am tired of playing with the carbs and hope to get it right this time. I have a UFO 4-1 pipe, and y baffles removed from the airbox, and KN filter in it. I...

    Valves adjustment question 1

So here I am tearing into my top ends trying to adjust valves. I got confused with a few things: Yamaha Service manual says align the T1 mark on flywheel with stationary pointer on crankcase. It shows a pic for TDC #1 cylinder, and another for TDC #2 cylinder. Nothing for number 3 and 4 -...

And the results of my steering head adjustment test are....

ALMOST A FREAKING TANK SLAPPER! Very helpless feeling when you are at 110 and she starts the death wobble! :bang head: She was rock solid up until the magic number (so rock solid that I got too comfortable) and then it got violent. That was the result of tightening the steering head up...

    Wet levels float adjustment

Yamaha wants around $40 for something similar to this for checking float adjustment wet levels. I used a piece of clear tubing, 1/4" id, .430" od (??) and 4 3/8" long. I don't understand the .430" od but it doesn't matter. I made a tick mark on either side of the tubing with a razor blade...

    valve lash checking and adjustment

    Valve Adjustment Time: Options

37k miles on the clock. Not sure about maintenance history, but compression is very good, engine pretty good. How many of you that consider yourself as average mechanics have done a proper valve adjustment on your Max? How many of you have had a shop do it, and what did they charge? The...

    Swingarm adjustment side to side

I can't remeber what thread this was discussed in so I'm starting a new one. This pertains to using the same parts on both sides of the swingarm pivot to allow the swingarm to be adjusted back to the left and correcting the offset. After replacing my broken driveshaft I found that the...
