hi guys, is there anywhere information about CDI compatibility over the years ?
I'm also interested in the corresponding labels for helping to identify them.
It looks like the 85-89 are labeled TID 14-43, am i right ?

Correct... how many versions exist? Have one here that I'm sure comes from my 93 and it's labeled TID14-93 B then 3JP-11.

From what I remember starting in 90 there was already a new unit which it's not compatible with the early version.
I have been looking around but I didn't find any concrete info about the compatibility or the labeling. Weird...

Thanks buddy. That's great reference. I suppose pre and post 90 are not compatible but others are, right?
Maybe an exception between the euro and us versions.

I don't know. I never replaced mine. I assume all full power ones are compatible, you are changing the brain not the wiring, and if wiring is basically the same it should work, i don't see why not...

85-89 are 4 pickup coils in stator housing. 90-2007 are single pick up coils in stator housing.

At a minimum to interchange these, the flywheel, stator housing & pickup coils would need to be swapped, as well as TCI. Also there is wiring connection differences between stator & TCI and power supply connections to the TCI.

85-89 were termed analog units & 90-2007 are digital units.

Venture are similar, 83-89 has 4 pickup coils & 90-93 have 1 pickup coil. Years after 93 are not compatible, without major surgery.

Dang, I thought pre-90 were two pick ups and later were four pick up unless I'm thinking of something else.
Better look at my book again. I just replaced my very expensive early coil pick up.

When in doubt...Gas it !!!

Physically, the '4 pickup coils' are contained in 2 housings, thus may be thought to be 2 pickup coils. But there are 2 separate coils in each housing.

1st pic shows 2 pickup coils out of motor

2nd shows pickups mounted in Venture stator cover
3rd shows flywheel with one of 2 lobes visible on top surface.

In 2nd picture the offset of each coil pair can be seen. One coil in each pack is aligned under 1 of the 2 lobes on the flywheel. Lobes on flywheel are spaced 'about' 1/2" apart over the width of the flywheel and radially I think they are about 160 degs offset.
