Starter Help

How do I know the if my starter motor or my starter clutch is out. I am having a lot of problems out of my 06 with 8500 miles on it. Last week I took it to the dealership to have the carbs synched. They drilled the plugs out but it looks like the drill walked off and drilled into the housing itself. Well it ran well for 2 days but then it fouled the plugs out. I did the "shot gun" and found fillings from where they drilled inside the screw. I cleaned it out now the starter is making a weird noise and it won't turn the bike over. It is making a grinding noise. Any help would seriously appreciated.

If it's grinding it would be the be the bolts on the starter clutch have backed out. You have to remove the middle gear cover, the stator cover and pull the flywheel to fix it. You need a proper puller to get the flywheel off.

You need a proper puller to get the flywheel off.

And a gun to use on the service guy that did that. Yikes.
