Up to date tire recomendation please

I've got an 86 with the original wheels and the Avons that are on them are too old and dry to ride...
What's the "go to" tire for mileage and comfort? I'm not interested in changing wheels so stock sizes only.

I ran metzler me 888 for many years. Plenty of grip and tire life. If I had not converted to radials I'd sill be running them.
