how to tighten a damper rod bolt

That dowel/broom handle trick didnt work. Yamaha must have been generous with the locktite in the factory that day.

Since I dont have the opportunity to measure the 12 sided socket in the damper rod down inside the fork tube. Are you guys sure its 24mm and what size bolt is that, 16mm? 15/16" is just a tad smaller than 24mm

Yes 24mm is the size checked again. I think the damper may be 12 point. Tool from Yamaha is 6 pt. I never use locktite there. Thead diameter,can't say.

I'm not following you gamorg02.. Are you talking about the tool to hold the damper rod? Does my 85 need the 24mm nut on a extension?

this won't effect you but in '03 the 12 point recess changed to a circular one where you had to be innovative to get the rod out.
