idle

Just picked up an 89 VMax. It has a miss I am investigating, (first I am going to try plugs and wires - on order) but dispite that it idles fairly steady on the kickstand. When I center it or lean to the right the idle gets much rougher. Any suggestions on what to check ?

I would replace the o rings that are under the jet block in the carbs. and only use factory replacements. i tried using some that looked right. but when installed the idle would be fine on the kick stand. the rev up when bike was upright.
