Mystery Oil Leak

Stator cover(left side engine cover) gets covered in oil on the outside center section when running the bike. Is it possible that oil is coming through the threads of those two flat head chrome screws with the hex in the center?

Remove those screws and make sure the rubber gasket and orange o-ring are in place. Careful, those screws strip easily. I replaced them with grade 6 bolts from Ace Hardware.

Apparently the O-ring on the center insert may not be sealing properly, and it is new along with both covers on that side. I put some sealer on the two screws for the center insert and the oil leak has just about stopped. Guess I need to find a slightly thicker O-ring or use some Permatex there.

sometimes the thicker o-ring will make the leak worse. just make sure it is very clean. A little sealer does go a long way too.
