An Indianapolis law firm is suing 78 county prosecutors, claiming that they routinely violate state law by holding on to seized assets instead of turning them over to a school construction fund.
The unusual case, which was unsealed today in Marion Superior Court, is aimed at tightening adherence to state forfeiture laws and repaying two year’s worth of money the firm thinks is owed to the state’s common school fund – though the firm also could get a cut of that money for blowing the whistle.
“School children are being deprived of money that the legislature intended to go to them,” said Paul Ogden, an attorney with the firm Roberts & Bishop and runs a blog on local politics. “It also creates a very bad incentive for law enforcement to be policing for profit as opposed to policing to stop criminal activity. … These are people who are supposed to be enforcing the law yet they’re taking property, taking money, keeping money that doesn’t belong to them.”

The Franklin Police chief has resigned.Stan Lynn will be replaced on an interim basis by Deputy Chief Tim O’Sullivan. Lynn will stay with the department and return to his merit rank of sergeant.
Mayor Fred Paris said Lynn was exhausted from the pressures of an internal investigation of a narcotics officer he suspended and a flood that caused the department to move twice.
He also said officers might have lost confidence with Lynn because of the turmoil. A police department meeting had been scheduled to talk about Lynn’s leadership today but he turned in his resignation Thursday night.
City Councilor Kenneth Austin said the resignation “couldn’t come at a worse time.”
“The department has had a rough go of it and I really like Stan,” he said.
Paris appointed Lynn when he took office three years ago.
Lynn suspended Bryan Burton for 45 days this year after he found he engaged in ghost payrolling, misused resources, drank alcohol on duty on duty and broke other department rules.
A special prosecutor is reviewing the case to determine whether to file criminal charges.

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- A Greenwood police officer has been suspended, accused of drunkenly arguing with a man who confronted him about leaving a baby in his vehicle, police said.Officer Nick Dine was off duty on the evening of Oct. 29 when a man said he watched him leave a baby unattended in his personal vehicle outside the Applebee's Restaurant at 874 S. State Road 135.Dine went into the restaurant, then came back out and went next door to the O'Charley's Restaurant, returning to his vehicle within five minutes, the man said. James Ison said he smelled the odor of alcohol on Dine and asked him to submit to a portable breath test.Police said Dine refused to take a test at the scene and again when he was taken back to the police station. An internal police investigation found that Dine violated city rules and department policies, including conduct unbecoming of an officer, making derogatory remarks and substance abuse.Dine was placed on unpaid leave Monday. He will appear before the Greenwood Merit Commission, which will decide on disciplinary measures.

Butler, a 23-year police veteran, has been suspended from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and has been recommended for dismissal.
His trial is scheduled for July 18.

Like any other metro we have our share of bad ones......But for the most part if we have any problem with them it could be "Overexuberance" because they fucking love thier jobs and hate thugs, and generally if you don't look, dress, act or talk like a thug your fine.....

They are too busy profiling the hell out of their general target customer, a practice I generally agree with, low hanging fruit and all that......

And if they get any sort of "crime in progress" call they are going to rush as quickly as possible to take advantage of any chance to bust/beat/shoot/arrest/tune-up some punk caught in the act......

If you can relate to what we call "Fire Queers" around here, which are Volunteer Fire Fighters that absolutely love and enjoy the adrenaline of what they do and do it with unusual enthusiasm and efficiency...Then you can relate to what the same type of cop might be like......

Admittedly overexuberance brings it's own sort of problems but I'll take it any day over cops that don't give a shit....

I won't even get started on these stories, but will say this: nothing is ,or can be, more corrupt than a socialist or communist society. as soon as you empower someone to do your wet work you give them the absolute power to stomp all over the honest citizenry at the same time. We are about there now. Honest people afraid to step up and stop something not cause they are afraid of the punks doing wrong, but because they are afraid of what will happen to them from their own public officials. They stand on the sidelines.
Some years back a group of homeowners from that neighborhood would have caught up with those dudes and settled it then and there. Now most are afraid to "take the law in their own hands". It is for that exact reason that these punks are multiplying at a geometric rate.
I can vividly remember as a kid several instances of my old man taking me for a ride to look for someone that we witnessed making an extremely poor decision so that it could be addressed then and there. The very thought of what would happen to me if somebody like him caught me do something like that prevented me from turning into trash. No question about it.

Blaine, I guess we need yet another layer of civilian oversight to get control of all those rogue cops running amuck in Ontario :biglaugh:
Sorry, couldn't resist!
