I'm trying to adjust carbs, and I'm wondering what setting I should start with for the pilot screws. I just had them cleaned and installed new pilots, and I don't know where they were at before cleaning them. Any suggestions?

in theory, u can do it by turning it all the one way until that cylinder dies, then turning all the other way until that cylinder dies and putting in the middle. i for the life of me couldn't get it by ear so i had a shop with an o2 sniffer do it. the back two had to be a couple turns out farther than the front two.

2 1/2 turns out is correct.

That ought to get you started.

With the synchronizer hooked up, and the bike warmed somewhat, you should be able to idle it down below 1000 rpms. That should allow you do tweak each carb down to just where it stumbles, then back it out about 1/4 turn - all the while keeping them synched together. I've found doing this at lower rpm's makes it easier to determine the exact stumble point.

When you're done, speed the idle back up to 1000 - 1050 range.
