Hi,

I'm gonna get some saddlebags/panniers for touring now and i was wondering if the rear seat easily lifts. Seems like some saddlebags requier adapter plates under the rear seat to fit.

I was thinking if something like this would go well with the vmax:

http://www.getgeared.co.uk/moto-detail_motorcycle_luggage_system_80l_black?sc=28&category=206

It uses an adapter like this one:

You guys got any other recommendations for saddlebags? I'd rather not buy bags from the us because I live in Europe :)

And does anyone know if magnetic tankbags attach to the vmax -00 carbon tank?

That will require relocation of the rear turn signals. You could fab something to rear-mount the lights by your license plate. The internet has many alternative turn signals. It depends on what your local laws allow you to do. There are custom lights which combine turn signals in the taillight, the CBR inside-the-rear-fender-lip taillight can be had like that. There are license plate frames which use both LED top & bottom brake light bars and each-side vertical LED turn signal indicators.

The adaptor plate I am not sure about fitting under your seat. You may get that, it's cheap-enough, and find that you need to mod it to fit the space available you have but an upholstery shop should be able to do that for you once you bring them the piece cut-up and pinned-together, or use staples. My thinking is it would fit under the pass. seat portion, but you may have to remove your storage for the toolkit to see it fit.

That stuff seems well-made, mention was made of Nelson-Rigg, they are worth the price & have a great guarantee.

Thanks! I'll check them out!

They stick to my 06. I think the carbon is just a paint job/cover right? Pretty sure there's still metal in there. If not... you can always glue some earth magnets to the underside of it :eusa_dance:

http://www.fatmax.com/ gets my recommendation for panniers. They're pricey, but they're fantastic. I found mine used with minor damage.

The brackets are wonderful:
Functional (fit an entire grocery cart on/in the drag bike):

Fun (quick release bags and shield removed for a joy ride):

Nice bike ya got there. Yeah I thought that it would be faux carbon, not sure though. Problem is I don't want to wait for cross atlantic shipping time. That's why I'm trying to get something in europe. Those blinkers are modified arent they?

I think I'll either be getting the one from getgeared or buffalo from Exactrep.

Stock blinkers, but they had to be relocated. The relocation bracket came with the bags so I'm not sure what it is exactly, but it looks quite a lot like this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002ERFB6U

Bolts onto the license plate supports, hangs a 90 degree bend off that the signals can easily mount and route to. Then you put the plate on the bracket.

Relocating means dropping the fender, separating the subfender, identifying the blinkers, and then extending them via the existing channels there for wiring between the subfender and fender. I extended with solder instead of with the provided butt connectors, but whatever works. If you can find a local vendor for these things : http://www.posi-lock.com/ they're pretty well perfect for automotive wiring. Tool-less, make a great connection, vibration resistant, and optionally waterproof.

:edit:
Being installed post - http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?p=279871#post279871

Didn't focus much on the wiring but you can get idea of what needs to happen with the fender. I'd suggest getting some plugs for the existing turn signal mounts if you're not filling them with a support for your bags.

magnetic tank bag on my faux tank sticks no problem (1997)

i got the hepco becker luggage from a forum member but theyre german so they maybe cheaper over there. bags pop right off but the bracket stays on

If those weren't so expensive here, that is what I would get since no one makes Vmax brackets for the GIVI anymore.

Not even Custom Vmax Services out of England?
Go to this link, they are still showing it for sale: http://vmaxchat.yuku.com/topic/1464#.UdVTeqa9LCQ

I am aware of those but the problem is they are adapters to allow use of the Wing Rack brackets. If you look at pictures of bags mounted with those adapters the bags are way too high and wide. Look terrible. I was talking about brackets like the standard ones that are lower and closer to the bike. Five Star in Germany used to make them but stopped in 2007 or so. Don't understand why GIVI doesn't make brackets for the Max considering how long it was manufactured. They have made them for bikes produced as long as one year only. Surely there have been more Maxes made in the 23 years of production than many others they make brackets for. :ummm:

I'm curious which model of bags you have on there. I've been looking at the Hepco Becker site and they have a lot of options available. Your setup looks great!
