Bought a Venture pumpkin off eBay. Seller said it was from a 1993 Venture and has been installed on a V-Max. Had the shock stud installed. However, when I tried to install it, the splines wouldn't engage. I removed it and compared the splines with my 1997 pumpkin. They are different and there is no way I can get them to mesh. In all my research on this swap, I never heard of this problem. Any suggestions or explanations? Going back to my stock pumpkin.

According to this, it should fit - doesn't sound like like it's from a 93 - did you contact seller with concern?

Thanks for the replies. It was my mistake. It must have been slightly out of alignment as it fit when I disassembled everything and tried it. After several tries I was able to get it to fit.

Thanks again.

Help me out guys, not sure what I am looking at here. What needs to be compatible for a pumpkin swat. Does the ring number need to be the same? I have a 84 Virago 1000, visually it looks the same as the Max. According to the chart it is a 32/11 2.909. Now the notes are 3,5,9. So, by the notes, it could be compatible, but there is some unknown. So, what do think? I just don't know what to do with the ring and pinion numbers, I'm assuming they are teeth, so the lower the teeth on the ring and higher the teeth on the pinion would mean increased cruising speed per rpm?
Help me out, thanks!

Teeth are probably the same but I believe the depth of the splines in relation to the edge of the flange is going to be different. Best best is to get both out and look them over.

Right, thanks Sean! I'll have a look at that sometime, if it worked, with a 20% change I'd have one quick virago and one slow, fuel efficient Max. Ha ha!

On a separate note, how do you get any work done! You always respond to my questions here pretty quickly. Plus I was googling ultrasonic carb cleaning and ran into your posts on another site!

I only get to these pretty quickly at the day job. At home or on the weekends you'll see I hardly post more then mornings and evenings.

I cleaned up another pair of carb bodies last night to send out with the tank. It's been hit and miss with my chemicals but I have some good stuff once again! I am going to try and "pre-build" a few sets of carbs to have ready for immediate shipping for those needing a set. I have to determine what I am going to charge for these. I have been charging $400 exchange but will probably go up since I am going to be replacing a few more parts now. I will probably be replacing the throttle shaft seals on any new set I do and am probably the only person in the country with the correct seals to do it! it's a lot of extra work but worth it for a nearly new set.

Spline offset for the wheel is wrong and might work if you get the wheel too. The newer virago's don't even have the shock mount area.

Sean

LOL, yep! Been posting pics on the Sean Morley facebook site every night when we get back. Got one more day here in D.C. and then the trip on the way home.
