looking up some part #s and I am finding listings for VMX1200, Vmax1200 and something like vmxNC1200......??

what is the deal here? I have a 1985 I need to know which is correct for me and would also like to know what the difference is between these model designations.

thanks..

I know the letter after the vmx stands for the year, N=1985 and another year too and C stands for California (emissions)

I think some of the letters have something to do with the few factory options added, like sissy bar or not....

I think..

C is custom, S is standard

Sarchin is correct. "C" is California (passes their emissions). The other letters denote year but are not exactly linear.

Sometimes model number is written VMX1200X, sometimes VMX12X

Model letters by year, to the best of my research:

1985 N
1986 S
1988 U
1989 W
1990 A
1991 B
1992 D
1993 E
1994 F
1995 G
1996 H
1997 J
1998 K
1999 L
2000 M
2001 N (yes, appears to be a repeat from 1985)
2002 N
2003 R
2004 S
2005 T
2006 V
2007 W

Klatuu: Great job posting the listing, Thanx...
I have a VMX-12F AND A VMX-12W...:biglaugh: The first "W"

Reminds me of the year codes OMC used, except theirs had a trick to decoding it.

I N T R O D U C E S
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0

The third last and second last digits in the model # are letters, use "introduces" to figure out what year it is. "CN" would be a 1983.

I noticed the "c" on some web site parts fiches when I first got my '01 in March. I assumed The "c" meant California emission model. This site and its wealth of knowledge taught me i assumed correctly for once. :)
