The general consensus seems to be 36 p.s.i. in the stock rear tire. Do you put any more in a 170 wide tire?

Follow what the tire manufacturer recommends. Just look on the side of the tire it will tell you what psi to run.

The tire only shows max rated pressure not the recommended. That depends on which bike its is installed on. You'll be fine with 36.
