Hello everyone. I was hoping that I could get some advise on the VMAX. I would like to buy one but since I cannot afford a new one, I would like to see if you guys can share what things I should be paying special attention when looking at used ones. Anything and everything you can tell me is going to be greatly appreciates. Thanks in advance.

Welcome big V...

First off check out this thread... http://www.vmaxforum.net/showthread.php?t=1461

There is some good info in there to read over incase you haven't already...

I would really try to get a '93 or later as the brakes and forks are upgraded...

After '96 I believe the bikes have changed little... Just small things like helmet locks and stuff like that...

Any one year is a good one as long as its been kept up and not beat to death. Just don't buy the dreaded '87 model...:whistlin: :rofl_200:

Here's a neat history of the Vmax... http://vmax.lvlhead.com/tips/vmaxhistory.htm

Cheers M8.

hey 4, mind explaining whats behind the 87 model stuff, i think i saw u say something else about an 87 somewhere and now im curious

I've been ripped off ! It says that the rotors were made larger and drilled for cooling. Mine bike is a 93 and it does not have the drilled rotors.....WTF's up with that.

....and they wanted me to pay $56 for a thermostat, damm Yamaha dealers.

Good luck on your purchase, if you know someone who has one or had one, take them along with you. Read as much as you can and don't jump at the first one. Take your time and shop, then you'll know when you find it.

Yours doesnt' have the drilled rotors in front?

:hmmm: I wonder if it truely is a '93 or maybe someone put all pre'93 front end parts on it after an accident???:ummm:

I've seen this before. When something changes on the Vmax, Yamaha tries to use up old parts. I have seen a '96 with a pre-96 rectifier/regulator.

R1 and R6 rotors bolt right on if you want drilled discs.

Wasn't '87 the year Yamaha genious's tried the infamous double overhead roller rubber cams?

Or was that the year they first tried the rubber domed pistons? :smileystooges:

Looks like a VERY nice bike... '95 will get you most of the updates! Wait till the last 5 minutes to bid... No need to bid now.

This one is always a good one... Bike has never been downed
Bike has never seen rain
--or snow & ice :)
