My '01 with 9300 miles sometimes hesitates and sputters upon light acceleration. At 2000 rpm and above, the bike is strong. V-boost kicks in around 6000 and the thing really hauls ass; no problem there. The dealer I bought it from and his tech says everything seems okay and Vmax's are very tempremental and cold natured. I have had the bike for less than a month so I don't have much saddle time, but it seems to me it needs some adjustment or a good cleaning. Anyone have any ideas what's causing the erratic low end acceleration and how to fix it? Or is it common on Vmax's and I should get used to it.

Got to agree with KJ. Had a similar problem last year and did the peashooter. It helped, but I never really got it running perfectly at low revs until I tore into the carbs and really cleaned 'em. Hopefully the peashooter/seafoam technique will do it for you.

Same here. Peashooter and shotgun using Seafoam as the cleaner helped, but it only really got properly fixed when I took the carbs off and cleaned everything properly, replacing any worn rubber as I went along. Mine's an '86 tho, so obviously had more wear'n'tear than your '01.

I think that the Shotgun method should be sufficient in your case.

Carb job was fun - check it out here:

Just like those other guys have said, try some seafoam first! It isn't a cure all, but it can help, and it is very easy to do. Run a few tanks of (good) gas with the seafoam in it and see where you are. You might want to change the plugs as well, it is another easy job and only costs a few $$. You just never know what the dealer did or didn't do.

It really is a little frustrating about the dealer saying "everything seems okay and Vmax's are very tempremental and cold natured". They might be a little cold blooded, but after warming up, you should be good to go.

Let us know how things go.

Okay, tried the Seafoam this weekend and it helped ALOT. Ran out the 2 remaining gallons of Seafoam/fuel mix and felt a big difference in low rpm acceleration. Much much smoother. Got a fresh tank of fuel and added more Seafoam to it. Will run that out next weekend if weather cooperates. May try new plugs, too. Again, appreciate the advice, guys.

Okay, went through 3 tanks of Seafoam but still showed a little hesitation and sputter at start-off. Put in a fresh set of stock NGK's and presto - problem solved. Now she runs smooooth. The 100 mile Friday ride probably didn't hurt either.
