No 65mpg full sized accord for the US market.

It's been dropped. Very silently I might add too.

A lot of bull shit about not meeting emissions and what not.

Another thing? The new Honda Insight - the HYBRID - gets worse MPG than my old Tercel.

Is it me - or does something smell realllllly bad here.

Looks like big oil wins again.

The 3 cylinder Geo Metro from the 90's got better gas mileage than the hybrids they are putting out today......:confused2:

I get 640km out of 37 Liters.

The Insight gets 640kms from 45 liters.

My tercel uses a 1.5L engine barely pumping out 100 horsepower.

The Insight? A 1.3L engine barely pumping out 98 horsepower.

It just doesn't make sense.

Honda also used to sell a honda civic VX model that "hyper miliers" pay top dollar for because it got 50+ mpg.

I only hear they were dropping the diesel from a friend.

They are going to "focus on hybrids" - - - gimmie a break.

*hopefully* GM can pull a rabbit out of a hat with the volt - but rest assured im not holding my breath...

My 84 1.5l carbureted CRX still gets 40+ mpg with over 295k miles on the clock.
I had a '85 Honda Accord hatchback that got over 32+ mpg on the highway. I used to drive from Flint, Mi. to Atlanta, Ga. (~750 miles)on 1.5 fillups (16 gallon tank). Great car I wish I had it as a second car now. I need my full size GMC 4x4 for snow travel, hunting and hauling stuff but the 16 mpg sux big time.

It's clear that companies aren't "struggling" to offer better MPG vehicles.

They simply choose not.

It's all part of the bigger picture of keeping us hooked on oil.

The thing that REALLY pisses me off, is how you get charged more $ for a gallon of diesel than for a gallon of gas, when refining crude oil into gas takes WAY more resources (and $) than going to diesel..

And in Europe, they sell way more diesel cars than gas cars, because you generally get almost twice the mpg out of a diesel engine, and these days turbodiesel motors outperform gas ones in just about every way!

the 1978 Chevette I had got better mileage than some small cars today.....

I thought it was a pretty good car too:confused2:
