more than likely due to the 'snapping frame' i've heard about, there was a mass reacall or something??

But I do know from a previous read up on vmax history the '85 was the best selling jap bike of that year even knocking the cb750 (think that was the bike) off its mantle!

nobody mentioned '92 :tantrum: anybody else have one?? I haven't even seen another for sale!!!

maybe not so much '92's as the '93 came with a few new parts

Mines a 92, I'll have to check the number and post it if yins want. Hell I think the block is the only thing on the bike stock. First mod was 96 forks then all hell broke loose.:punk:

Mine's a '92 I bought in '93 with <2K on it from the original dealer in Ft. Lauderdale, Honda-Yamaha Ft. Lauderdale. Too-much motor for the former owner.

ok this has nothing to do with how many there are, but maybe how many 85's are left. I cannot confirm this but it my be just folk lore too! I recently heard this trivia that in 85' that 50+% of all vmaxes purchased that year , the riders were killed on them! bad subject I know ,but if it is true might make the 85's worth even more!

Gannon

Actually, the 'snap' is the sound of the rider's spine parting company after their last accident. They say that on a dark night, when you stand next to the bikes which were owned by a rider who died on one, that during the second full moon of the month, if you spritz some bean oil onto a hot exhaust, and inhale the fumes, a vision of the former rider will come into focus for a few seconds.

Three people in the next county who tried this with their VMax's went mad after seeing the vision and now are spending all day making boondoggle keychain fobs in the state hospital, I heard it from my brother's best friend whose cousin works there and has to keep them away from the windows at night, in-case they see a full moon again, and relapse...

'92 owner here as well. It is the last of the original design before they tried to improve upon it's bold and brash design. It is the epitome of what the Vmax designers intended!:punk:

I was curious about this question as well. How many v max's are there?

I have a 92 CA model with 7197 as the last four

So in totall 769 bikes.

Since this posting years ago I had in possibly one of the last gen 1's ever made. Production date was June 07 which is the last month for that model year. The last 4 of the vin was 1932

And still, we don’t really know how many were built. We can make educated guesses based on serial numbers for given years, but production numbers are very elusive.

Too bad Japan didn’t Publish production records the way Detroit did in the musclecar era. They can even tell you how many ‘71 Chevelle’s had the 3/4” paint run on the firewall under the brake master cylinder. And which of those were Fathom Green.

I had an 85 until 1998 when I sold it, it had 167,000 on it and still ran well. Now I have an 09 and just turned 78,000. It runs great too.

Well, simple way to get an idea is to look at the vin numbers on some of the 2007's. Any guys with 07's out there want to share the last numbers of your vins??

Sean
Did you guys ever figure out on Vin number total. How do i read mine to know
