Yes.

Nothing happens. You just lose some weight and the ugly ass tail light. I've had mine set up like that for some time now. There are a couple of captive nuts at the rear of the fender you can use to mount the license plate or a custom tail light.

Yes, works just fine. You'll have to figure out something for your tag mount.
