just for some quick numbers:

170/80-15****25.71

17" RIM:
190/50-17****24.48
180/55-17****24.8
190/55-17****25.23
180/60-17****25.5

180/60-18****26.5

Seems like a 180/60/17 is hard to find...

You forgot to calculate the 1.5" drop in the shocks and the 1" drop in the forks. :biglaugh:

i realize that, and did it on purpose, i was trying to make a point that all things equal you can run a 17" rear and 18" front radial an keep the same proportional difference in diameter/circumference

Point well made, I would buy the kosman 17" wheel now that we have discovered these facts. :biglaugh:
1 cheapest way to install radials on the max
2 tire availablity for both 18" front and 17' rear are plentyful
3 using the following example the stock tire diameters are very close
Using an Avon Storm 110/80zr18 in front made for a 2.5 to 3" rim is 24.8" in dia with 520# load rating and a 170/60zr17 rear made for a 4.25 to 5.5 rim is 25" dia and a 783# load rating. Combined load rating 1303# less bike equals about 650 # payload.
4 carrozzerias are no longer available(I did not know this):ummm:
FYI The 180/60x17 that i could find is a bias ply tire

Never asked if they could do a 17" front?? It's a more universal type wheel on the front so it's quite possible. I don't use the 17's very often since ground clearance, speedo, and visual looks aren't very good in my opnion.

you are right on, the 180/60-17 is bias belted or some shit. so no one bank on getting that tire!

I can still get you a front Carr wheel!

they are gorgeous too! esp powdercoated. it sucks they cost so damn much (considering your old cost for the pair)

The Carr front wheels that fit, are any 17"?

18" which can mount a 110/120 or 130 front. i've heard, but haven't done it yet, that the 130/70 front will put you right about stock and speedo won't be that far off.

going back to our original discussion, a 190/55-17 would fit nicely at diameters being 25.17" front and 25.23" rear.

I choose the tire sizes based on a stock swing arm (no notch) and the front wheels measly 2.15 " width. personnaly, i like the wider tires, but do not like installing tires sizes that are not recommended for the rim width. I mounted a 160 on my 5.5" wheel (max wheel for a 160 is 5") the tire rode ok, handled ok, had a flat looking profile but just was not right compared to the 170's. With radials you get to change tires alot.

I am running a 180 now in lieu of the 170 and really can not tell any differance in turning effort. Still feels very neutral. The tire rides smooth, is quiet, and really hooks up. Hope this one last longer than 3900 miles.

Since it was raining today(we needed it) I found myself in the garage with very little that I wanted to do, so I measured the back tire offset. Mine came out to 1/4" to the right with carr wheels. I was expecting more considering some of our previous discussions. Not sure what this means, But there it is. I am not going to try a fix it.

Wow, geeting so technical over tires. I got front and rear kosman 3 piece custom rims on my max. If you are into HP and modding for performance go with the 17" tires ! There is so much more to pick from with sticky tires for the street. Yes there are some 18 slicks available but i am talking of street tires. The used race scuffs off ebay are a steal and hook like glue. I have pulled high 1.30s 60ft using these tires and street legal. I can not believe Yammy put 18s on new bike! If you want to just cruz the 18s are a thought. 17s will need the front fender droped but no big deal. I was able to run 190 pirelle tires with stock swing arm but had to use a side grinder on the side to shave the edje off slightly. I did this for years and never had problem with tires, The dunlop tire are BIGGER, the 190 will not fit must use a 180. I only talking of the race scuffes do not know how the other tires sizing go. I modded my rim for a sprocket now and still use it. Thinking of selling them going with r1 rims.
