Are you thinking about racking some for your vmax?

turbostang said he was going to do this but he seemed to have disappeared from the forum?I am going to try it.I already racked my FCR's,should be able to do these.

Open Vboost to boot!

I've been doing a lot of wishing and dreaming... I would love to get some flatslides, make custom intakes, port/polish the heads and let that baby breathe! I haven't taken off any VMax heads yet, but why are the intake ports oval shaped, and can we put some larger valves in it? I have yet to rack any carbs, but it is something I am interested in doing. Take plenty of pics and let us know how it goes.
Cheers,
Jeff

Here was another idea I have been looking at, but haven't researched it too much. Not sure what it would cost, but it would be fun to play with.

I was also looking at those today. Then I was checking out www.saarloos.net again. His efi and turbo set ups are something. This guy is one smart bastard!

Home made efi and turbo are over my head at this point. But later?Who knows!

Shawn, R1 carbs are 40 mm CV right? Those should work better on your 1230 than the flatslides you are currently using.

Good catch!

I agree. I've been following this build for over a year (I subscribed to his thread).

EFI is definitely the way I'm going. (It's not as hard as you might think).

MS is by far not plug and play and fairly in depth. It IS inexpensive however. I delt with it on a project of mine and it didn't end up working out for me, but there are plently of guys using it with success.

I don't understand the controller part of it. There is not a plug and play one is there?

Neils Saarloos used the megasquirt controller, which is supplied as a partially assembled kit by Bowling & Grippo. This is an enthusiasts (hobby) kit but does everything the expensive stuff does. It’s good for small budget builders.
The Bowling & Grippo web site has lots of good info on it so have a read.

Some people supply the assembled MICROSQUIRT kit for motorcycles. http://www.glensgarage.com/catalog/microsquirt-ecu-p-97.html

I would look at this if you want a plug-and-play solution on a budget.

At the other end of the market you have the likes of Electromotive http://www.directignition.com/index.html or MoTec http://www.motec.com.au

One thing is for sure. If you get into this you will never consider using a carb for anything again.

I've been reading up on these now for a few days.Seems like it could easily be done for under $1000. I invited Neils to this forum so we'll see.I'd like to talk with someone that already did do it.

megasquirt,megasquirt2,microsquirt?
Crank trigger?

Tuned port seems like it would be way easier than multi port! Make a one piece intake manifold with a plenom.Timing would be easier too.

A lot like the holley 4 barrel manifold Dale Walker made at one time.Someone up in New York still has one on his bike.Saw it at Thunder years back.

I researched a bit and found a dude who did the same injection system on his virago and another who did it to his ZXR..... i got all inspired and bought gixxer t-bodies and a fuel pump....

The megasquirt web site has a forum with guys who have a bikes section for it...

But im gonna take it slow... still got a swing arm mod to do...in over my head

Wow, RJ, you are going all out on mods! Sounds like you might need a pretty long winter to finish them all. Can't wait to see the bike when it is finished!:thumbs up:

Well, I just got some 38mm carbs on ebay... $65 for everything, so even if they sit on the shelf for the rest of their life, I'm not out too much. If anyone has any tips on racking them, I'm all ears. I'll be sure to post more pics when this project gets going.
