Hi guys,
Ive seen the various threads about sissybars
but has anyone seen one tried the Renntec
brand ? Saw it at Revs performance site for about
$250 delivered. Out of Europe, looks pretty good
although the backrests looks a little short. Any
info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

If that's the place out of Atlanta.... I ordered one from them back around early Feb or so...after waiting over 3 months for it to show up... the mounting bracket was about 3/4" too narrow to fit...ended up sending it back...lost out on shipping of course.... but them's the chances ya take on anything mail order...at least they refunded the sale price...

I don't know if the mfg'er (somewhere in England), had just put the wrong set in the box, or what...never re-ordered... there's sure not enough there in any case to merit what they want for one...

Aunt Phloozie says "sissy bars are for sissies!" ... and has become quite ok with not having one when she's on the p-pad.... she just holds on to me tighter if I'm twisting on it a little... and that's OK!...so not gonna be one on mine at this point, ever....

Let us know if your deal with 'em turns out better than mine did...

Yea,
They're the one in Atlanta. Think I'll wait
and find a used OEM one or maybe a
H.a.c. one. I believe I saw someone showing
a chrome they offered on this site. Any
enlightenment ? Thanks for the input Uncle
you probably saved me some grief.
Chris

I may have a line on a used OEM one, once my sport tail shows up:biglaugh: Will let you know if it is going to be parting ways with me.

Do you have a link?

here is the link for Rev performance,

Jim either pm me or e-mail me on your
original when the new tail piece is in. I like
the look of the oem one. Do you know if they
make a sport rack for it ? If not no worries
I've been looking to slap a sissybar bag on the
bike if I hit the road. My e-mail is [email protected].
Thanks,
Chris

Hey,
I've got a question . Is the backrest affered at the
yamaha dealer/ Star the same one that came on the
Vmax originally ? Also is this better than the H.a.c. one
that a number of you are running on your bikes ? Any
advantages to either one ?
Thanks,
Chris

I ordered an oem from Yamaha, after waiting 6-7 months (while Yamaha was re-tooling the castings--which always sounded like bullschlotz to me) it finally arrived. Had a bitch of a time on the install, directions sucked, had to dremel off a bunch of burrs before I could bolt on the rear reflector, on & on.

If Yamaha actually did re-tool they shouldn't have.

Think it was just over $300 delivered. Christmas present from wife, so I kept it, but not happy at all. :bang head:

Good luck with the oem backrest. I had ordered one myself and waited over a month. Kept being told they were on backorder. Finally I was told the vender that made them for Yamaha went out of buisness and they were looking a new vender. I was told it would probably be after the first of the year before I could get one. Got my money back and still need one.

Well that sucks .
The oem ones on e-bay are going for $400 + !!
Anyone dealt with Blair Powersports ? They show the star/oem
one for $305 delivered and ships in 2 to 4 days. $300 + is a lot
for a sissy bar but the H.a.c. runs $250 at the cheapest and you
have to mod the rear reflector and some guys have complained about
the fit and have only heard of one other who tried for the Renntec
and had a bad experience. Geez, does noone out there make a
decent quality product at a fair price ?
Sheez,
Chris

What they didn't tell you SCOTTC was....how long after the first of the year!! Turned out to be 4 months after for me.

This is the first I heard about "the vender" issue, but it's probably closer to the truth than the "retooling" crap they fed me.

I'm now convinced the one I got was actually an old return that someone sent back because of all the casting flaws.

It's on and secure now but the whole deal leaves a bad taste. My rec would be-stay away from dealers with oem backrests. The ones on e bay are probably ok, but pricey.

Thanks fo the input Dannymax,
What kind of flaws are you seeing on the
oem ones that dealers are selling ?
Thanks,
Chris

Well it appears that Revperformance carries none of the Vmax
sportracks in stock. I've called twice a couple of weeks apart
and they are always coming in a week. I finally did a search of
just about every major city in the U.S. through craigslist and found
one in Pennsylvania. It's an Oem set me back $325 delivered.
Star has discontinued, every place on the net shows them but
they can't get them. :bang head:

So, it seems like new HAC, RenTec, OEM, (or any of these used) are the only reasonable options. This thread makes it seem pretty bleak - doesn't anyone know of a decently priced, quality, low hassle way to get something that bolts straight on and looks nice (ideally chrome or polished alum)?

I have a OEM backrest if interested, it isn't perfect, but the price reflects it. I also have the Chrome Virago high grab bar that fits in it too.
