I saw him at Watkins Glen when I was at the F1 Grand Prix, in the mid-1960's. He was retired by then, but I was able to get his autograph, on my race ticket.
He was one of the best. Back-then, many drivers were dying while racing, so for him to get out intact, and to make it to age 90 is an accomplishment. His Mille Miglia race with Denis Jenkinson in the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR is often considered to be one of the best-remembered efforts in racing.
Roughly one out of four times he got into the cockpit of a Formula 1 car, he won.
