hey guys -

I've seen Vmax sissy bars that have a Virago "naked" top piece (without the back-rest pad). Does anyone know if that Virago top piece is year specific?

Hey Dennis -

That link is perfect. How did you ever find that?

BTW, to everyone else, I picked up Dezeez's old sissy bar. It's exactly as he said it was, PERFECT. Dennis (Dezeez) is a stand-up guy!

Thanks again ...

Google. I just typed in "Vmax Virago sissybar" and that was one of the hits.

I thought about doing that mod before I went with the HAC and sold you the stocker. Like I said, I was really pissed about the quality of the HAC but it does go on and off quickly. I modded the stock reflector to fit over the butt ugly bracket when the sissy bar isn't installed. That made a big difference on the looks. I spent 2 days polishing the bar. It's at the powder coaters now being clear coated. Didn't even have to strip it since it didn't have a finish on it. Hey, what do you want for $250.00?

Mark,

Here's a thread that talks about the part you're looking for.

Did you get the sissy bar yet?

Dennis

Here's a cut and paste of that link:

Grab barTroy,
This old thread might help ......... These bars replace the top
portion of the regular Vmax backrest base. It looks very cool ... I
just gave one of these away a few months ago, (a chrome one) ... the
person who got it was having their base peice as well as the original
top portion of the backrest assembly chromed so that they could switch
off ....... I think the chrome ones go for about $70 from Yomama
.......

if you can find a 85 Virago (wrecked ?) the grab rail is aluminum not
chrome, it's a perfect fit and matches original grab rail.

Thanks to Vern H. for the info on the Virago bar
that fit the max, I finally got one.

This is for those who don't like the height of the padded sissy bar
that
we put on the Max, but still need it once in a while for the "other
half".
The short grab rail that used to come on Virago 750 will fit perfectlt
into the lower part of our sissy bar. Like wise if you needed only the
top
part for your Max you could get one for a Virago and it will fit. The
draw
back is these parts are chromed, not brusted. I had chromed the sissy
bar
for my bike so the rail worked fine for me. I got the idea from "H" at
Exactrep. They also take the top rail from a Virago and fot it to the
stock Vmax grab rail somehow.

the grab rail I'm referring to replacement for the vmax backrest upper
section it's a little higher than the stock grab handle you could
mount a
pad on it but it would have to be real small. you can find it on a
1985
Virago 750, Yamaha part number 42X-2164A-00. it's aluminum not chrome
plated

Subject: Grab bar

Does anyone know where I can get ahold of one of those extended grab
bars? I have a sissy bar now, but it takes away from the hot rod look
IMO. The one i'm looking for is about 5 inches taller in the rear
than the stock one. Also, does anyone know if its a one piece unit
(like the stock one) or if its a 3 piece thing?
Thanks,

Check the photo gallery on Python Motorsports. Tom has done it on a couple of Max's. He's also a great guy to deal with IMO. He modified a rear fender for me. He cut the "duck tail" end off, (there's one or two pics of that mod in his photo gallery as well).

When he shipped it back to me, for some reason FedEx screwed up and re-delivered it back to him. He immediately overnighted it to me at his own expense. I tried to split the cost with him, but he insisted I not worry about it! IMO Tom's a great guy. Real friendly, easy to talk to, more than willing to let you pick his brain, and wants to make sure you're happy.

He offers alot of Vmax parts, and he has a number of chrome parts if you'd prefer to buy them outright rather than chrome what you've already got. Definitely worth checking out!
