Worked on this 89 today. I bought it from an X AMI motorcycle instructor. He had supposedly rebuilt the motor. I can see all the new gaskets when I picked it up but could not verify 2nd gear was good even though he told me it all looked good. He was a double amputee on on legs so could not verify for sure.. it seems to run and shift fine. It is clean up time now. It looks better in pictures than in person.
Hey Captain
LOL ! Isn't it usually the other way around with it looks better in person than the pics?😆
I do like that color though!

Changed out the clutch slave cylinder this morning. With my son wrenching and me reading the most excellent instructions from Fire-Medic (thanks a ton...again!!) it only took a couple hours if you include getting the 36 year old gasket material off. 1 hour without that issue. But it runs and shifts awesome!!!!

Great, thanks for the feedback. Your positive comments may induce another member hesitant to undertake the task, to take it on.

Still pecking away the first picture is of an 89 I been working on to resell. 2nd picture is one just dropped off from Oklahoma to change exhaust and rebuild carbs and Put Dyna coils on the one in front of it is from Florida waiting on transmission parts . The last picture is a parts bike and some of the other bikes around here.

Worked on the 89 a little today put a vboost cable on it and a starter clutch and switched out the bodywork to black. The blue looked ok in pictures but was in really bad shape.

Sdt-354 took a box of parts I ordered from Sean and got my bike back on the road after a turn 3 low side at Thompson speedway in Thompson Ct. Last session of the day I decided to get off my track bike and take the Vmax out. I have found the limit. In defense of my trusty Vmax I was hanging off on the bitter edge of the tires. I think some swing arm flex contributed to the no warning slide.
I still stand by how well our bikes can handle when set up right.

Was the course photographer able to take any pics of you on the track dragging your knees?

Have you seen the video of Marc Marquez using his arm/shoulder to right himself on the track? One of the most amazing saves ever. Shades of Fast Freddy Spencer, who could reliably slide both the front and the back, simultaneously, which made him both 250 and 500cc World Champion in Grand Prix racing, in the same year!

Another one:
Look for 'Alex Marquez 2019 Japanese GP save,' where he's not even in the saddle!

Unfortunately the photographer is done by the last session of the day. I can't really get a knee all the way down on the vmax with the relatively shallow limit to the lean angle. I do, however get my body off the bike to maximize speed thru the corners by lowering the center of gravity. I've decided to retire the vmax from track duties. It's too important to risk crashing it again and doing real damage. My track bike is a tool my vmax is........my vmax.

Working on Jamie Marsten fender and miniature belly pan ,I am also working on a Harley front fender for another customer and a different front fender for mine while I am at it. Last but not least had an 07 faux cover with some paint damage on the right corner so fixing it and reclearing the whole cover.

The VMax faux tank cover looks like 1960's wild cherry 'teardrop' graphics. Back in the day, you might expect to see dancing teddy bears, terrapins, and Lord of the Ring-appearing people in and around the pattern. I have some pics I took at Arlen Ness's shop in San Leandro CA back in the 1980's of a Psychedelic Sportster he painted kinda-like that. I also have other pics I took much-later here in south Florida, also on a Sportster following a similar theme. I know I have some pics of it, but I'm not sure where they are, digital images. The CA pics are Kodacolor prints and negatives.

Who remembers the 'Conan' phase? Frank Frazetta, anyone? Vans and bikes got the Conan the Barbarian (1982) treatment, or Dungeons and Dragons, or mystical sorcerers and sorceresses, dragons, and knights. That was back in the 1970's and '80's. Back when LP's were 12" vinyl, his designs were very popular. Later, it was HR Geiger for music cover artwork and science fiction film scenery & backdrops.

Great work Kyle!
