Has anyone used this size tire on the front? I have some 18 inch rims on order and need to order tires. The Metz ME880 comes in a 130/70, which is closer to the stock diameter than the 120/70. I want to make sure there's clearance in the width.

Thanks

what size rims? i think fargo (ragingmain) has a 130 altho not sure what exact size/make. he is running cazz i believe which are 18x3.5. i wouldn't mind going 130s down the road if i found ones that fit and were reasonably priced.

I believe it will fit, but just. Also depends on the width of your wheel though.

I think Fargo runs a 130 on his.

18 x 3.5 front, 18 x 5.5 rear. I was thinking of going with the Metz 130/70 front and 180/55 rear. This combination gives me the closest thing to stock wheel diameters.

yea i'm running a 120/70 and wouldn't mind the extra bit of diameter to at least make the front closer to stock. plus the width would look bad-ass. i wonder if i can get ahold of fargo to comment.

just did the math out actually tho it would only give me about 1% closer to stock, so not that big of a deal.

i run a 190/50/17 rear and the better accel is a little nice! heh

I'm trying to stay near stock diameters, to minimize the effects on the speedo and rpm's. The closest I've found is the Metz. I would have gone with the Dunlops, but they don't have a front large enough. Although, I might get better turn in with the smaller Dunlop.

I have the 130 up front, Avon Cobra, with the Carr wheels and it looks bad ass in my opinion. Clearance is fine and the extra air volume really improved the ride quality. Has not affected cornering at all. It is a little heavier than stock but with the lighter wheels it really doesnt matter, ends up being lighter overall. It is only 2mph off at 80mph.
Go for it, you wont regret it.

I decided to go with the
Metz ME880
120/70zr 18
180/55zr 18

Their radials and speed rated W (168mph). They might be over kill, but I like over kill, when it comes to tires.

I didn't realize the 130/70 is bias ply not radial. Since one of the main reasons I'm buying new rims is to utilize radial tires, I'll go with the smaller 120/70 radial. I would have liked to try the Metz Z6 or Dunlop Roadsmart, but they don't make them in 180 width, for the rear. With a 5.5" rear rim I need a 180 for proper fit.

The Metzler 130/60vr 18 is a radial. (60v) I don't know the difference in dia. Between it and the 120/70zr 18. They should be close though. I wish they were both over 61 on the weight ratings.

The Avons are radial tires. I wouldnt have gotten them otherwise.

Garret, they were expensive and I will shoot you some pics when I get home. So far they are wearing quite well. I would have to say 5k miles so far. I dont ride that hard though and I am not having any of the problems one of our other members has been posting about the Avon tires. They have handled very well in all sorts of situations, two up, extreme speed, cornering and wet. The 130 up front is formed quite well for stability but when cornering goes into the turn very very well without any jitteryness or doubt. Just leans right in, tracks well and is stable as hell.

Heck even my wife noticed on the first ride how much better the bike "felt" she doesnt have the motorcycle vocabulary to express it properly. She just really enjoys riding it much more now than she did before.
(That is until I got the FJR, now that is all she wants to ride on)

sounds good bro thanks. i appreciate the review. i am liking my shinko verge's, not sure if i can see spending that much more for just something that i like better cosmetically (altho the more correct speedo would be nice).

Here's the metz installed on 18" RC Comp rims.

Your wheels and tires look great. I'm still waiting on the chrome shop to finish mine. They should be done this week.

Thanks! After having black rims and tires for the last 13 years, I was ready for a change.
