Hi folks:

Question re. reattaching the pickup units that mount around the stator:

The screws that Yamaha uses to attach these pickup units appear to be crappy soft metal (SO soft that I broke one of those screws while backing it out from the crankcase cover!)

So, my question is this: Is there any safer/stronger type of screw or bolt I can use when re-attaching the pickup units?

Thanks very much!

You can use about any bolt you like. I'm not sure why they use so soft a bolt material. They do tend to use anodized fasteners on internal parts though to last longer (though the oil helps keep them in good shape anyway).

+1!!! Changed mine to hex heads instead of those phillips head bolts. Why Yamaha would put phillips head bolts in is beyond me, and then to loctite them on top of it...:bang head::bang head:
