Jim's wife departed Neosho, MO this morning. I met them at a gas stop in Council Bluffs, IA for a quick hello. I believe they are doing approximately 4200 miles in 6 days. They should be getting close to Sioux Falls, SD by now and will then head west to Seattle. Safe travels!

She'sdoin her ride on a Rune... Thats doin it in STYLE!
I think I will be satisfied if I do 600 miles in a day. I would be tempted to extend the return trip to a thousand miles, but I'd be afraid I would be too wiped out before the end.

Shala texted me this last night from Gillette, WY. Local cop warned them that hail was coming and recommended hiding out in the carwash. Sure enough, the hail came. They eventually made it to Buffalo, WY.

She phoned in last evening from somewhere near Sheridan, WY. That was over 1000 miles straight through on her way to make the 1500 IB. Butt burner, or Saddle sore, I don't remember which is which. Last year, she, on her Rune, raised over $1800 for charity doing her 1000 IB to Niagra Falls with this same friend, Lisa (on a rented HD trike). The girls aren't due back here until some time Sunday, as they are taking 'the long way home' through parts of Washington & Oregon, Idaho and maybe some of Utah as well.

When gassing up somewhere yesterday afternoon alongside the interstate hwy, a local Deputy came up to them and asked them to go directly across the street to a car wash to wait out an impending storm. They followed him to the car wash where he also parked in an empty stall, and true to his word, minutes later came the nickel sized hail storm. It cost them nearly an hour to wait out that storm, but they are still well inside their IB time limits.

Thanks for escorting them 12-15 miles on your lunch break yesterday Mark.

No problem, Jim. It was fun for while it lasted. I wished I could've gone farther.

Impressive..........Have fun girls..............

Um, yeah........they must be. When she called last night, she could hardly hear me over the DIN of the busy (PUB?) they must have been in at the time. I could hear her ordering another beer. :biglaugh:

Shala just checked in, and they made their 1500 miles - with over 2 hrs to spare. Now they are on to Spokane for the night.

Well, the HD and/or it's rider, couldn't cut it yesterday. When the going got cold, wet and rainy, the HD dropped further and further behind even though Shala kept purposefully slowing down in an effort to allow her to keep up. When Shala finally exited the hwy at the first Spokane exit, the HD was no where to be found. Via phone, Shala was able to determine that it and it's rider was safely tucked into a motel some 80 miles back in Idaho with a pizza on hand. All Shala's extra (dry) clothing & overnight bag firmly packed in the HD. Needless to say, Shala is PISSED at her travelling companion on this trip!

Would anybody in their right mind drop back of your travelling companion, and without so much as a high sign, or flashing headlight, decide on your own to pull up for the night and get a motel and allow the other person to continue 80 miles ahead to the pre-determined rest stop? I bet this is the last time Shala will allow a HD to drag along behind on one of her IB excursions. What a PITA.

Maybe not so much if you are a woman, but traveling alone does have it's advantages. Only yourself to be concerned about.
Here's hoping they both have a safe trip.
Cheers!

Jim, definitely sucks. Shala needs to convince Gigi and/or other riders with similar skills as Shala. She should just get her stuff this morning and just consider riding alone. IMO.

Perfect time to hand deliver an ass whooping.

Tell Shayla she's got folks here rooting her on! That was actually pretty nice of the LEO to warn them about that hail storm. Sucks about the partner wimping out.

I saw those pics Mark first posted and just saw that one little bag on the Rune and thought to myself "Shayla only brought that one bag for the trip? Holy crap Jim really did find him a one of a kind woman." :rofl_200:

Heck, I tried to convince her to pack her OVERSIZE T-bag setup(complete with weatherproof elastic banded rain covers) and strap it to the back seat. After all, that is why she bought the thing. But NO, Lisa's HD has all the space we need to pack things out of the weather and this way she don't need to worry about theft while parking anywhere temporarily etc.

I just got off the phone with her, and she's still sitting in the parking lot of the correct motel, and WAITING still for the HD to arrive. It's now more than 1.5hrs later than when she said she'd arrive there this morning, and only just now checked in with Shala to say she was leaving the wrong motel and starting the 80 mile journey to catch up. Shala seemed livid. Most likely will not pull any HD's along on any more of her IB's, that's for sure. They are supposed to do just over 600 miles today to remain on schedule to see what all they planned, and still be back here sometime Sunday evening.

Will do Antonio.

Jim, I should've just lent her mine at the gas stop here. Dammit.
