Head light fit issue w/pics

Tried to install new headlight and bottom bolt was 2mm larger than the hole. Removed sleeve shown in picture two and it bolted up.

Did yamaha go with a smaller bolt after 85?

Wasn't the same sleeve already on the bolt?

I'm gonna try mounting another headlight myself, I'll see what my '86 has..

No. The sleeve has a 8mm hole and the shouldered bolt is 10mm dia. Had to remove sleeve but I just didnt feel right discarding it.

Don't know what year they changed but the bolt shows the same for 85 and 07. The difference is the sleeves. The 85 did not have them and the 07 does. Probably started sleeving them to help keep the rubber from wearing? So the rubbers and sleeves would be different.
