Hey guys I was interested in if anyone was interested in some
lowering brackets for the factory luggage rack. I have a design
layed out that a machinist friend of mine plans to build for me. I
set it up where its about 2.5 - 3 inches lower than stock. This places
it right above the rear reflector. I came up with this position due to
the fitment of my Kuryakyn grantour bag. This is the lowest that the
attachment to the sissybar will go. ( velcro wrap around ) I initially
was going to go lower but honestly it looked a little strange. Soon
as I get it mounted I will post pictures. Not sure what material we
will go with. I am assuming the easiest would be the 1/8 steel that
the factory ones are made of. I would like to see if Aluminum would
be possible. The guy who will do the work is strictly a machinist
and said he could put them together but it would be up to me to get
it powdercoated or chromed. The guy is a rider and a vet and
I'd like to help him out. I told him I'd get the design together
then he would build them and sale them if anyone is interested. His
name is Griz and he's having a hard time finding a job in his field.
He's an old school machinist, ( Think he has 25 yrs experience )
and the economic downturn along with the newer technology is hurting him.
I also told him maybe we could also design some saddle bag supports.
If anyone is interested let me know and I'll post pics soon as the
1st one is put together. Might be a couple of weeks though we
have a bike rally here next week and might take a bit to get together
with him as he lives out of town. If any alternative heights or ideas
are out there I'd be more than happy to listen to them.
Thanks,
Chris
