Got a computer virus.

Not especially malicious. It would re-direct me to different websites every so often (not the obvious porn ones) - usually about twice a week.

I noticed immidiately and ran all of my virus programs.

They became disabled. Yes, I could open them, but they could not be updated. And they found nothing (surprise surprise).

Now I have re-installed windows (Vists64) and 8 hours later - YES EIGHT HOURS later - I still cannot install Service pack 2.

My video drivers took ages to get going.

My sound card forgot how to work.

I would like to electrocute the individual who is responsible for hijacking my computer.

What possesses someone to wake up one morning and decide to create a program that will make my computer unuseable?

I seriously think electrocution is a valid penalty.

This on top of the busiest, dirtiest 3 weeks of work. Couldn't have happened at a worse time. Family trouble to boot.

I also have not recieved knee gaurds ordered on Aug 5th 2009. Worse the guy says he can't track them.

I am also doing my safety course this weekend (which my insurance company requires before insuring me) - this program also upgrades my licence to M2 - which is required by my insurance company - and they are ON STRIKE. Yup. On strike. No M2 for me (and as a side effect no riding) until this gets settled.

On the bright side, I got my morely seat and paint should be here soon.

Blimey. Not fun. But I have the solution: dump that POS PC and get yourself a Mac. No more virus problems, ever..

And that seat from Morley will surely put a smile on your face soon enough!

Yeah. I know all about the MACs. Great computers. However, I do a lot of gaming and macs aren't condusive with the games im playing :)

My next lap top will no doubt be a mac.

Wow......

That sucks.....

I think eletrocution is too good for'em......

Unless it's SLOW.......

You know.....BZZZZZ....."how'd that feel, huh?!!?!?!?BZZZZZZZZ......."yeah.....you like that?!?!"BZZZZZZZ

Well I have Parallels Desktop as well as BootCamp on my laptop, so when I'm in the mood for games I just reboot it into Windows ;-)

And you know the best thing? When I do get a virus on the Windows partition, I use the virus detection software to tell me where the infected file is, then quit Windows, open the PC partition in the Mac desktop and simply trash the offending files. Virus gone. That's it.

Gawd I love my Mac...

I have a new MacBook Pro at home and a 2 year old MacBook Pro at work and love them...

People say that Macs are susceptible to virus's as well but I have yet to encounter one. The operating system is SO much better IMO.

I have Bootcamp and Parallels on my work Mac but seldom use it. Vista is a PIG and sucks ass IMO.

+100000000000000000000000000000 to that!

Another alternative is to use a linux based OS ( I use Ubuntu ) instead of Microsoft. It's much cleaner, faster, virus-free & best of all IT'S FREE !!!:punk:

I have finally got SP2 working..

Just today...

I am changing operating systems as soon as Windows 7 comes available.

Did they get rid of system restore in Vista?

Next time just use system restore in the help & support in windows.
Click on restore my computer to an earlier time.

When you use it it puts your entire registry back to where it was. Eliminating any virus, as long as you go back to before you got it.
And it's a hell of a lot easier than reinstalling the OS.

I'm a gamer, and I have a Mac. I added an additional drive to my Mac Pro, installed Boot Camp and just boot into Vista for games. In fact, I played Half Life 2 against Fastmax1 one night. (He kicked my ass, IIRC.)

I haven't bought an antivirus program in over five years since dumping Windoze for anything but gaming.

I have always run windows mostly because that's what I learned on and I really cannot afford the extra cost of a Mac. I never pay for AV or spyware, I use the free stuff which work great for me.
I play World of Warcraft, talk about a game that has all sorts of hackers and spam sites associated with it! I do not have the latest gaming computer either, 128mb video card which needs to be upgraded, 2g memory, 2.8mhz P4 processor not the greatest hardware. But info is out there to make a XP system run well with out all the resource hogs that come std. from MS.

We are just starting to look at getting systems with W7 on them. Like Vista (which we never used after our testing) it's wise to wait a while to see what the inital issues may be, but my gaming buddies are claiming that W7 is the best yet.:confused2:

Sounds like you have the Conficker worm.
Not too hard to get rid of. Need someone with a clean PC to help you get to windows up date from a thumb drive. Course I'm no guru...just what Ive read and heard.

What I can't swallow about Macs is how frikken' expensive they are, and that (no offense to anyone here), about 90% of mac users always feel the need to lecture me about how much better their Mac is than my PC, and how they're so glad they "switched". I'm at college, so Macs are everywhere. Not to mention even a top-shelf mac computer has only ho-hum components by PC standards. Wooo, a nvidia 7 series graphics card....

I paid $1600 for a custom-built Xotic laptop a year ago. Not quite all top-shelf components, but damn close. It eats FarCry2 for breakfast. Bioshock runs maxed out at the 17" screen's native resolution of 1920x1200 smooth as butter. I run Vista home premium, and my PC boots faster than my room mate's Macbook pro. Yes, my PC running Vista boots faster than a Mac. We've done all sorts of tests, since he was completely shocked that his mac-top(which cost more than my custom) has yet win in anything. He tried Far Cry 2 on the windows partition, and was a slide show at anything above medium settings. We tried converting the same video file using the same program.....mine did it in not quite half the time. I run a MATLAB program to completion faster.

Whenever somebody tells me that their Mac is "just better", I always ask them what specifically is better, and they usually regurgitate something from a Mac commercial, like "it just works" or "I don't have to worry about viruses". Way to go, you paid top-dollar and even you don't know what's so special about it. I have to hand it to Apple's ad company, they work miracles.

I have yet to get a virus, or any sort of hitch on my computer's performance. All I run is AVG Free, and even that rarely ever alerts. My computer has never locked up and never crahsed. Only thing that sucks is the battery life, I get maybe 2 hours but that's the price to pay for power. Vmaxes don't get the mileage of a scooter.

I'm sorry, I just don't see the argument for a Mac. You pay more and get less. Sure, Mac OS has lots of little doo-dads and novelties, but I couldn't find any solid extra features that Windows doesn't in the few times I've used it. If you use a Mac and like it, great, I just don't see the appeal.

It's like buying a H-D vrod over a Vmax.....costs way more and underperforms, but it does have lots of chrome and you can tell everyone you ride a Harley.

Most people are guided by price. I was guided by quality and features. I went with the MBP for that reason. The 7 hour battery life, lighted keyboard, built in camera, billet aluminum assembly with LED back lit screen, and an unbelievable multi-function mouse pad and the coverage that Apple gives you after the sale is unbeatable IMO. Sure I could have built some fire breathing work horse of a computer but I don't want to. I want the features the the Apple gives me. I got 0% APR for 12 months on it and a free iPod touch so I pulled the trigger on it and don't regret it ONE bit.

Oh and yes... Not running the spybot, adware, and virus scans daily is a nice thing as well.

My PC now sits in the basement collecting dust.

Of course I am an Apple nerd... I've had a 2G, 3G and now have the 3Gs iPhone. Just make more sense to me.

Oh and my mac boots up at least 4 times faster than my home PC did and it was a duoprocessor as well AND on XP.

Cheers,
Chris
