Finally bit the bullit and decided to strip my standard Vmax shocks, the inside of the springs being a bit rusty so I removed them, sand blasted them and their off to be powder coated black. I've attached pics of the stripdown, the spring compressors were made from some of the clamps that attach to "H" beams to allow for hanging stud bar for pipework.
On refitting I intend to compress the springs in a hydraulic press and cable tie them to hold them compressed for refitment so as not to damage the coating. I'll post the finished items when complete.
