Since it was given to you and you have all the parts.... you are now required to turn this into a 1300 beast motor.

Really? I have an 83 venture motor and an 89 Venture, and a local guy has an 83 venture for sale. Spent all day reading about the VMax, if this engine is seized up past the point of saving then I might take that Venture 1200 and use it, won't have the HP of course.
But I did score an 85 lower case for $25 off Ebay. I am mostly a Goldwing specialist, fast is passing several RVs on the hiway two up for me.Over at Goldwingfacts.com they know me quite well.

I do have two Ventures, the 89 I ride all the time, more so than the Goldwings as they are heavier. The 83 is a project bike. spent 17 years in storage from a house fire, still reconstructing body and drive train and its almost finished, at this stage I would not really want to yank the motor for the Vmax.
The guy had this bike in storage from a family tragedy from what I think I know from way back then here in Alaska, they were loading bike on trailer, fell off and broke engine case at the oil filter boss, they thought it was hopelessly destroyed,so I think with all their trouble they just left it behind and fled Alaska and again last year his brother is nearly killed on the Goldwing I just bought, and his health is getting bad as well, he is near my age a gearhead, also collects older Corvettes.

But he really cannot ride anymore and believes I can bring the Vmax back to life.
Just a few moments ago I bought a gravity feed sand blaster, I have two at work but they are massive machines I use to remove concrete from mixer trucks, way too big for a bike engine. I plan on trying some silica beads i have at low pressure and then baking soda to polish the aluminum. Also bought a VMax stator cover and stator as it looks like somebody removed it for some reason. Just the round access cover but I bought the whole housing anyway. It was cheap.
And then I will know it will have a working stator now.

You have Venture parts???
I want the heads (cams and all), carbs, intake and running gear! and the diff. XD
You want the whole bike? Its for sale, was in a house fire, plastic melted, replaced almost everything, runs like a champ, has 17,000 something miles on it. was insurance totaled and stored away inside for 17 years.

But I am in Alaska and USPS dosen't have a box big enough for it friend, yeah thats my situation, its a royal pain getting anything of size and weight in or out of Alaska.

Yeah... Alaska is a bit far for me to be looking... but a nearly 50% increase in fuel economy is something I am looking for, as well as a more relaxed ride. My Woona just wants to get up and tear down the road lol

Here are some pics of the 85 Vmax that sat under a tarp for 15 years.

looks like was wrecked in the rear previously. too much gap on the back of the rear seat.

I installed a switch to operate my garage door. It mounts nicely under the fake tank in a already existing hole

Naw its OK, I just thought the rear seat pulled up from the rear, did not know you have to unbolt it so the tab is sitting on top of the frame instead of under it, no I don't think it was wrecked, it fell off a trailer and broke off the lower oil filter boss of the lower case.
I just bought another case, in the meanwhile I will make a "U" turn hose from the oil outlet right back to the sump and after pulling the pan to make sure its all clean, fresh oil, new battery and then to start it.

I think I may start a restoration thread.

Cool.. I'd like to see that.
It made me a lil teary eyed to see a vmax neglected like that.

I had been dreamin of owning one for 15 years before the stars lined up just so. (2 yrs ago, my dream came true)

So Alaska ya say? I wonder if your near KJ?..
Anyway.. welcome and good luck, im sure we'll see ya around the forum.

Just cleaned off the bugs shit and splats from somerset Pa and beyond off my bike .. I'm thinking I will keep the rag (dirty) for a while as a reminder of the fun I had and the somber moment at flight 93 memorial .. F T T H

Put a fuel pump on the project bike. Now I just gotta pump the rest of the flecks out of these lines (or make new ones) and I can put the carbs back on to see what we get.

I would be HIGHLY tempted just to run new lines....or brass TEE's with rubber in-between them, so that way there is no doubt if there is junk in the lines. Just my thoughts.

Yeah. 15 cycles and it's still pumping tiny flecks. I hope autozone is open tomorrow so I can get some fresh fuel lines.
