Iv been shopping for a carbon fiber helmet and came across these.

Only weighs 3 lbs. And includes Transitions? SOLFX™ photochromic visor

Probably looks more appropriate riding a 1985..

Anyone have one of these?

Which would you buy?

I remember using my simpson bandit and it wanted to pull my head off at high speed. Guess I better go with the phantom II regardless how it looks.

I like the Phantom helmet and the idea of the photochromic visor. Like to find one of those for my helmet.

hey rebar, if your looking for a sweet helmet i would go with something that is well known unless you have seen it in person. i know i have wished i waited and tried helmets on before i bought them online in the past. i would suggest an ICON helmet. they make a BA (bad ass) carbon helmet. and ICON makes such good helmets IMO. if your not looking to spend this much you can search CL and i can keep my eye out for a deal on 1 if your intrested. i have seen them on CL before for way less almost new mint condition? i got a brand spanking new ICON Domain helmet for 100$ exactly the color i wanted black. heres a link to the carbon, good luck

The kid that bought my 05 has a joe rocket CF helmet. Extremely nice! It's got the red CF in it.

What did you have for a windscreen if any. When I was racing many moons ago, I used a simpson bandit, and running low 8's - high 7's it was still solid.

If your looking for helmets, take a peek here. :)

No wind screen. The bandit helmet was a older model and started to lift about 80 mph. By 100 mph, it was strangling me.

I found a good comparison on youtube.

Found some info on head shape and helmets. Which helmets fit pin head's well?:rofl_200:

I would look at the Shark RSR2 Carbon frankly - crazy light, 5 star sharp rating, DOT and ECE cert'd and it's BA... If you really want to step it up look at a Bell Star Carbon

I second that.

although the Akuma is suppose to be a top notch helmet, ive read a lot of rave reviews about them

Vemar also has excellent reviews

I just bought my wife the joe rocket carbon for only 200.00 at www.revzilla.com (JRand HJC are made by the same company)
Personally I dont like Icon and neither do my friends, they all have said it didnt seem as quite as the other helmets the previously owned.

Thats the one thing about the Akuma phantom II Iv read. Loud.

I don't want to wear ear plugs with a helmet.

I have the hjc carbon fiber helmet. It is nice and lite and I've worn it on 100mi to 400mi days without it feeling heavy at the end of the day. Of course the rest of me hurts after the long ride...i was younger once! I just mounted speakers in the helmet and my ears don't feel cramped. its a little hard to hear fully ...i have supertrapps. I've bought a few lenses on ebay, usually delivered for under 25$ as they do get scratched, probably my fault more than the road and bugs. I use the clear and the dark smoked lens. Most of the time i have the smoked lens in and drive home way after dark and can see the road pretty well. I will also ride at nite with the lens 1/2 open to look at the road and it doesn't bother my eyes. the lens will slap closed when i get over 80mph but thats all right as it should be down at that speed. Not trying to sell you on it just giving my experience so far!

I've worn earplugs with every helmet I've owned. KBC, Shoei, Arai, Scorpion, Joe Rocket (HJC). In that order.

I love wearing ear plugs in my helmets. MUCH more enjoyable and MUCH better for my hearing later in life to boot!

I currently wear the Joe Rocket which is carbon fiber. It's light as hell and breathes like a lung. It's not the loudest I've owned but not the quietest either.

Arai's are hard to beat and they charge for it!

The noise is less of a issue than how the helmet feels/pulls over 100 mph. I cant take my old bandit over 100mph and I dont want another helmet like that.

I haven't made a decision yet because the weather warmed up.

Still leaning toward the akuma MFR (made for racing) but I wish I could try them all first.

I've been thinking about loosing my current helmet and going with another Bandit, in carbon fiber flavor.

Definitely looks bad ass. Not sure how aerodynamic it is though.

I've heard lots of complaints about the shield mechanism on Arai helmets though...that's it's complicated, tough to change, and easy to break while doing so.

The Icon shield plate is the best I've ever used...super simple, can change visors in literally 10 seconds. Open the visor fully, flip one lever on each side, and off it comes. Put the new shield in place, press the levers back, and you're set.

Using some good fitting earbuds are a good idea also. If you get a decent pair (like the $30-$50 range), they fit well and have a fair bit of earplug effect to them. Then you can take your ipod or whatever along for the ride. I use the Kicker EB101 earbuds....good sound, stay in place pretty well(they work themselves out every so often if I accidentally tug on the wires), and don't break the bank at $30.

I can't imagine that Alien 2 helmet with the flattish front would do so well at speed. While looking cool is always a bonus, I'd never put it over practical function, and having a helmet that's trying to strangle you at 100mph isn't going to help.
