considering doing the R/R mod, cutting out all the connectors, running directly to the battery, etc.....my question is this....looking at the original wiring diagram, it appears the red rectifier wire runs into the "crimp" that everyone recommends fixing, so....if you run the red wire directly to the battery, this is taking the R/R out of any fuse protection? right or wrong? If so, an inline fuse on the new wire would solve this, I assume...but now, what size fuse? Main fuse is a 30a, but what size would be adequate to protect just the R/R?:ummm:

I would keep the red wire as it is, and just do the crimp fix. Once it's been properly soldered, there's no problem with it at all.

More important is to run a ground lead, because the R/R uses its own metal back against the frame as a grounding connection, and that just isn't very good electrically.
