Has anyone else seriously hurt their tailbone with a lowered seat?

I hit a serious pothole with only my back tire last spring. My tailbone still is not right.

I got the front wheel up but didnt get up onto the pegs in time and took a hard hit.

That sucks Shawn, and I can see how that could happen. I have a lowered seat, but my riding position has changed with the Super-bike bars and stock risers. I'm leaning slightly forward taking the pressure off that area of my back a bit. I've found this position to be beneficial to my back on long rides. And, with a little more weight forward the bike handles better.

Not that way...... But when I was a kid I took the legs off one side of a Picnic table and jumped it with my " banana bike" the landing didn't go so well . :bang head:I broke my Coxic ( tail bone) And was in pain for months. Hope your better for next season. A MAXGASSER might help:biglaugh:

I got a similar experience summer 2011
getting home from work; want to show a co-worker how that V/4 get it all out:eusa_dance:
i hit a sever bump, that much so my last double spot and fly-screen came all wrong:bang head::bang head:
with my 1 1/2`` shortened rear schock ; that was a hit:damn angry:

I think wath save my tail-bone; is my front-lowered drivin position

Shawn,

I did that and it took 2 weeks to get better, in your case sounds like you should see a doctor.

My best,
O

Oush Shawn, I remeber those from the days of sledding down those icy hills as a youth. I remember pain for days but that was probably just bruisng, sounds like you may have something more if it's lasting this long. I'd get it checked out just to be sure.
I have a Morley modified midcut seat ("flatter" in the tailbone area) so I have a thinner area under the tailbone and being a heavier guy (280 lbs) I'm always very conscious of those big potholes. I've had a few big hits but none that have had any lasting pain. Sean has left the right amount of foam for comfort but still allows me the sitting "in, not on" feeling.

I need to get it looked at. I think it may just be seriously out of place. I still cant sit on it long on some chairs or seats.
Even if I broke it last spring was a long time ago to still bother me.

Its funny that you mention sled riding. I drove to Morely's place once. After entering Ohio, There was not one good sled riding hill anywhere, flat as glass. I feel bad for all the flat landers. I'm looking forward to skiing season starting here soon.

We sled behind ATV's or trucks lol! That's how I broke my tailbone back in 1985. Never had that much pain ever in my life (even years later when I almost like my leg in a motorcycle accident).

You can/should get it looked at,:ummm::ummm: but if its a broken/cracked tail bone theres nothing they can do,cept pain meds, I had to use on of those hemroid pillows for a long time:bang head:

That's about the age I was when I slipped and fell from the top of one of those big hwy rollers they use making new roadways. The ones with huge metal spikes sticking out all the way around. Busted my arse bone but proper on a spike. If it weren't for the denim jeans I was wearing, I swear, I may not be a virgin back there today. I fell all the way to the ground bawling like a little fifth grader........and had to crawl more than a block home due to the pain being too much for me to stand up. Seems like I puked some too. Mercy, what a memory.

Anywho, I began packing on, and to this day, I carry around 100+ pounds extra padding back there to help me day to day. I take my real-gel pad with me everywhere I go. hehehe. (yes, I'm fat, but now you know the reason why.)

I broke mine when I was 15, we were horsing around and running down some stairs when my feet went out from under me. Went to the doc, he said yup, broken. and that was it. Didn't get a doughnut pillow, I got what looked like a cookie with a bite out of it. Seemes like it took forever to heal.

The pillow looked like this except it was round.

I was about 13 - 14, sitting on a deep window ledge, probly 4 - 5 feet up and some kid grabbed my ankles and yanked me off the ledge.....BAM! flat on the tailbone on concrete....had back problems ever since. :bang head:

I just finished reshaping my rider's seat, for the second time (narrowed and lowered a tad)
Wished I had viewed the above site before I started. Probably would have been very easy to incorporate one of those gel cushions in the design!

By the way, in Canada, December 13th. is our national
"Be Kind To Your Coccyx" day.
Just another advantage of living in a quasi-socialist nation. Lots of national holidays, lots of days off from work!
Cheers!
