I have read stories about criminals in Canada getting busted directly from triangulating their position. I can't vouch if the stories have been true.
I could see this being useful to find out what CITY people are in - and perhaps, to a less accurate degree - the neighborhood?
Someone made a comment about not trusting your life to batteries - good advice
