I'm making my 98 Vmax a little more personal. Painted fenders and faux tank cover and side plates "hot rod black". Had scoops and several other metal pieces powdercoated gloss black. Installed forward controls which got powdercoated too. Swapped turn signals for tiny LED's that are flat black with smoke covers. Drag bars, bar end mirrors, and fork boots just cause I think it makes it look a lil tougher. Flyscreen with powdecoated frame. Someday I will get around to doing a CBR taillight. Bought a Nelson-Rigg tank bag and installed a custom-sized tank protector. I think the bag will still prob end up getting some rub marks from the magnets on the side wings. I may try to put a clear film protector in this area. I also want to paint the "yamaha"inlay in the scoops silver.
Love this bike. What ya'll think?

Hope you don't mind me asking, your fork boots are outstanding!! I tried the same thing from a dirt bike, but they turned out to be to small & I had to return them. Could you tell me what bike those boots came from. Thanks...rusty:biglaugh:

Thanks everyone. The fork boots are from a Rancho RS1952 shock. I bought them here:

http://www.amazon.com/Rancho-RS1952...&qid=1392051001&sr=1-1&keywords=rancho+rs1952

I just did a search for 43mm shock boot and these popped up. They are not perfect around the base where I had to ziptie them to the fork lowers. The Yamaha fork brace interferes with the fork lowers being perfectly round at the base, but I was able to squeeze them in there. There is a little cutout on the fork boot material. It may end up tearing a little or letting a little water/debris inside. I will watch it closely and if so, wil trim about 3/4" off the bottom and re-ziptie them.

Nice looking bike! I sometimes see a close to stock looking bike and wonder why I spent all the money I did on trying to change it. I guess that a Vmax in any form is just damn sexy!
Nice looking garage too! What type of sealer/ finish did you use on the floor?

The garage floor is just Rustoleum Garage Epoxy that I bought at Lowes or Home Depot. It was really pretty easy to do and reasonably priced compared to other options. It has held up for 2 years now incredibly well. I etched the floor with muriatic acid, let it dry for a few days, then applied the epoxy myself in about 5 hours. Covered my 1100 sf garage floor for about $500-600 if I remember correctly. I added a few extra "sprinkles" than what came with the kit b/c I wanted a little better wet traction.

More vmaxes haha- my wife says I have enough toys! I got the forward controls here on the forum from another member. They are stamped with a "WS" but I don't know more than that. They are 3/8" steel and very heavy duty.

Nice looking Bike. Just a suggestion... If you're into all the painting and powder coating, why not freshen up the faded motor? My '98 was the same way until I painted the heads with Rustoleum high heat gloss black. Hardest part was all the taping.

Man that looks great. I have to ask, where'd you get the front turn signals from?

Love the fork boots. Will get some.

Don't like the black scoops.

The essential vmax identity comes from the visual of the motor i.e, the intakes from the CV carbs and the faux intakes to the carbs.

The scoops don't stand out and are lost in blackness.

Chrome the scoops.

IMO ALL pillion back rests are spine breakers (and they look gay).

Get rid of it.

Thats funny - I have had a little of the same thoughts about the scoops. But I really wanted the bike to be predominantly black. Since these pics I added some silver inlay stickers in the YAMAHA on the scoops and added a silver pinstripe down the middle of the scoop. It makes the scoops just enough more noticeable and I like it. I may end up changing them down the road- we'll just have to see. I kinda prefer no backrest too, but if I were gonna go that route I would end up doing some significant rear styling modification like removing the rear seat and adding a whole new higher rear fender, etc. But my wife wants to ride with me so it will stay as is for now. She insists on the backrest and I agree for passengers.
