Just updated to iOS4 for iPhone

Sooo....updated my ipod touch 2g to OS4 the other night. I could have wiped my entire hard disk and re-installed windows in less time than it took iTunes to update a 8gb ipod. It seriously took almost three hours. Apparently non-3GS owners get shafted out of all the cool new features, like the multitasking and custom backgrounds. What I did get was absolutely absymal battery life and a feature that crashes the device if I try to make a folder. The ipod goes through battery faster than the Vmax does 4 gallons of gas. It can be fully charged, doing nothing in sleep mode and be turned off totally dead a few hours later. WTF? I used to charge it maybe once every couple days. Now I can't even rely on the alarm to work since it commits suicide sometime between 11PM and 8AM and doesn't go off.

Sheesh. The "big update" adds tons of demanded features(except if you own a non-cutting edge device), and enables you literally minutes of battery life to explore them with. Apple appears to have defied the laws of the universe in that iStuff can now destroy energy without producing anything whatsoever in return. Also neat: My "8gb" ipod used to have an "actual" capacity of 7gb. Now it's 6.8...guess defying the laws of physics requires exactly 200mb of space to synthesize a black hole for energy.

No, I don't hate tech, I own an iPhone, and I'm a software specialist. Kind of my job to not hate tech.
I just hate how apple always makes the stupidest things seem like some technological breakthrough. Multitasking has been around for years, on computers. The iPhone is just that, a phone. I don't understand why the fan boys seem to think of it as the almighty and powerful Jesus phone that's going to cuddle you at night and wipe your bum for you when you make boom boom.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

So drink up the Kool-aid everyone and go get yourself a Jesus phone. Or don't.

So after looking into this issue a bit, I'm definetly not alone is getting ultra shitty battery life after updating. Apparently the energy vortex to oblivion is because os4 feels the need to keep a constant connection to wifi, even when the device is in sleep mode. Since 2G devices dont get multitasking, that has absolutely zero possible use. Might as well drill a hole in your gas tank and then wonder why your mileage sucks.

Man, apple really dropped the ball here. Did they actually test their new os for longer than it took to install without bricking? Having to disable wifi now completely destroyes the whole reason I bought this thing. I can buy a mp3 player at Wally world for $20 that's as useful as my $250 iPod is now.
